Hi fellow music makers,

Having now retired and having time on my hands I wish to have a go at creating music.

I just went to buy my first ever BIAB from PG Music website after hours of research on the internet regarding its suitability for someone of my maturing years.
However, If I wish the audiophile version then I must must wait for the delivery from USA to reach me here in Eastern Europe and then maybe have to pay a tax, (which is an unknown cost to me)
I can however download the ''everything Pak'and start ''playing'' straight away, like a child wishing to play with his presents on Christmas Eve I suppose.

I would like to know from those who are better aquainted with the programme, can I make decent music without 'wav' files and what other limitations I may incur not using wav files.

Any other pros and cons to using wav files would be appreciated.
Can I upgrade later?
Many Thanks in advance for your well intended advice.

- Yes, You can I upgrade later? Real Tracks
- Yes You do not need the WAV sounds of the routine work, if you do not want to directly generate publishable recordings on CD

If you are just using it for your personal use, I think you will find the non-audiophile version works just fine, and in general, most folks won't be able to tell the difference unless doing a side-by-side comparison.

If you are looking to produce music for sale, you may want the audiophile (maybe sales can offset the cost of the tax); however, even then lots of folks do just fine with the regular version.

Definitely get either the UltraPlusPak or the EverythingPak, as well as any other add-ons being offered.

Unfortunately, you just missed the sale for BIAB2017, so all prices are back to full prices. There is a possibility of a mid-year sale when the new Mac version comes out, but no guarantees, in which case the next sale will probably be December 2017.

This might help with information, too....

The below link is to an article that Matt Finley prepared a little while ago about Audiophile versus non-Audiophile versions of BIAB.

I was just about to link to that. Nothing has changed since I wrote it, to my knowledge.

Thanks Noel.

And Yorkshireknight, welcome to the forum.

Many thanks for all your replies. Your input has helped me make my descision and I am now the proud owner of the ultra plus pak!!
I expect I will be using this forum a lot to pick the brains of you Muzzo vets. Looking at the programme makes my head explode, by the way it took about 17 hours to download all the files!!
Thanks to Noel and Matt for the link whcih also helped and for your info Jacko, I am english living in Bulgaria.

While I am here replying to you all, I wish to find a good tutorial on how to make 6/8 time with BIAB/RB
I have written a song and the beat is 6/8 time and my search across youtube has not yet revealed any tutorial that I can understand.
This is typical me of starting at the deep end as it were. I am also busy writing a country song in 4/4 time to help me get into BIAB more gently.
Once again many thanks for your replies and to point me to the correct thread to ask the questin about 6/8 time.

Congratulations! The UltraPlus Pak is one of the most popular on the forums from what I can tell. That was what I regularly purchased and upgraded over the years.

In relation to 6/8 time, you would be better to learn using Realband before embarking on that journey. I personally encourage you to work on your 4/4 Country song as a starting place. You'll learn a lot more about how the software works doing this. Once you've done that, then visit 6/8 in Realband (RB is much better at working with the less common time signatures). In case you aren't aware of this, Realband is sold with BIAB so you will already have it.

Good luck with your journey!
Noel

Welcome Yorkshireknight

You have already received expert advice and I too would encourage you to learn the basics before delving too deep just yet. Most of the program functions are intuitive and you shouldn't have too many issues. If you do, there is a fantastic forum of skills available right here. You're in the right place.

Welcome aboard.

Trev

Thanks Noel & Trev, I agree with your advice and have this morning started work on my country style number.
I think I am going to approach the learning curve by finding the solutions to my problems as I go along with the song.

I have already found a problem but I think this thread/post is not the place to ask. so I shall take my leave and pose the question on the correct forum.
Once again thank you for yoour help and encouragement.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
