I've been experiencing constant crashes of BIAB since installing OS X Sierra. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is there a fix?

Several members on this forum experienced problems with BIAB and Sierra when it was first released. I could not trust the combination of the two on live performance and would use older versions of both. I do believe the problems have been addressed and since installing the latest BB updates all has been good for me for several months.

Yes, make sure you have at least build 150, and preferrably build 150
http://www.pgmusic.com/support_macintoshupdates.htm#2016_152

These specific Sierra issues got fixed....

Fixed: Some actions on the main screen respond very slowly when using macOS Sierra (10.12).
Fixed: The Audio Edit window draws very slowly when using macOS Sierra (10.12).
Fixed: The splash screen takes a long time to appear when using macOS Sierra (10.12).

We haven't heard about any specific Sierra issue since that fix.

Have Fun!

I've had no issues with BiaB crashing subsequent to build 150 and with the latest update of Sierra.

Hi,

no issues here, with BiaB subsequent to build 150 and with the latest update of Sierra.

All the best

I have been experiencing a few issues on Sierra.

1. When you hit Play, the black bars that move to show you which bar is playing display erratically for the first few bars. BIAB 2015 with the latest build is running on a brand new MacBook Pro. They don't display in time properly until the third or fourth bar. This means I can't use it to show students without throwing them off.

2. When I try to make a some form use a C section, there's no way I can find to actually indicate the C section bars on the chord sheet. Is there a way to do that, please?

3. I can't use the Notation window unless I install BIAB on the internal hard drive, apparently. The font doesn't work unless installed. Can I download the font and install it separately in the system so I don't have to install BIAB on the internal drive?

Many thanks for an incredible program!

Hi Uncle Mickey,

Actually i have experienced, in my macOS Sierra/Band in a Box, what you describe on the very odd/rare occasion but can not recall what i did to create what i call stutter effect.

And so, i find it best to hit " generate and play " button in the transport bar the first time i start a song/project and especially after i make any changes to that song. After that i just hit the play button in the transport bar or tap the space bar.

At the moment not exactly sure about your issues 2 and 3.

Will give them some more thought.

After I installed it the font issue disappeared, I can now see the chords in the notation window display properly.

Also, the delay for there black bars to move when starting a song is gone. I think "W"s tip to regenerate also made a difference. I didn't do that the first time I played the tune after opening BIAB, but the display worked okay. Then I hit "regenerate" and it still played okay but the tracks were somehow much improved from the initial version.

I installed the last available update (106) but the song form still won't allow me to create a C section, I can only create A and B sections but no C section.

I spoke too soon ... the stutter of the moving black bars is still there, just different. I can't get it to behave.

Try disabling the two options that are found in Realtrack settings and that I've highlighted on the image below.

I'm not sure if this will help because I have BIAB (Windows). We have similar settings in the Windows version and these settings have been known to solve similar problems.

It sounds like you are using the (blue) A and (green) B part markers to identify your A and B sections.

While you can certainly use these for that purpose, the role of the A/B part markers is to change sub-styles for a particular number of bars. The B part markers introduce a more energetic playback than the A part markers. This playback style continues until another part marker is encountered. I tend to use A part markers at the beginning of verses and B part markers at the beginning of the choruses.

Part markers also tell BIAB to include a drum break in the bar immediately before the part marker.

It is possible to use Section Text in the notation window and then this will also show up in the Lead Sheet Window. This would allow you to identify as many sections as you need.

Hope this helps,
Noel

When i launch Band-in-a-Box 2017 Beta 6 (April 18) it still opens up with the upper portion ( just above the area where you enter the chords ) completely in black for about a couple of seconds or more. I have raised this question before but apparently in the wrong area of these forums.

Am i the only one that is having this problem in macOS Sierra 10.12.4 ???

Hi Noel96,

This is an off topic question.

In your screen shot how did you highlight those areas with red circles ???

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
