I'm new to the forum, but I've been using BIAB for a while.

I'm looking for STY or MGU for Chick Corea's "Spain"

or, an existing style or demo that would work for this piece ?

I know the chord progression and could enter the chords myself.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure what you mean by "I could add the chords myself." It's only the chord progression that someone could share legally for free.

Thanks for the reply...
What I mean is, I know the chord progression, but don't know which style would work best...
I thought someone here might know the song and save me some time by suggesting a style and tempo....

Ah, yes, different and very good question. Just playing it in my head, I hear the tempo as a 16 pattern at around 126. Not as frantic as it could be. PG Music styles recommend an 8 pattern at around 220:

If you go into the Style dialog box, there is a Search button. Typing 'Spain" there gives several possibilities:

olinda EV8 210
sambafst EV8 220
samba^1 EV8 220
samba^5 EV8 210
sambf^2 EV8 220

etc.

My version has the same style that Mac recommends. What is a bit complex to set up, and you need to think about it, are the breaks and pauses that are normally used. Then there is a suitable harmony or unison.

It really depends on what style of music you are into. I have a great recording of 'Spain' by Acker Bilk, but it wouldn't be everyone's glass of cider.

I used to have a Biab file of Spain but it was so bad I canned it. The problem is what Graham just said, all the punches and ryhthms in that tune just don't sound good using Biab unless you want to turn yourself into a stylemaking wizard. People can and do create a custom style that only works for one tune and with enough tweaking good. My thinking is why go to all that trouble to create a Biab file when you can usually do a simple Google search and find a good midi file of it? While you can play midi files in Biab, Real Band is really much better suited for that.

I've got a good sounding BIAB file goin' on for Spain. True to the original, pretty much.

The style I mentioned is all that is used.

The trick comes in easily enough, the "Intro" is really the whole first 39 bar part, with lots of Rested Instrument parts throughout for that part, which plays basically only the melody on all instruments, including Bass, on the Melody track.

After that there is a 12 bar section for the jam, with repeats.

That is followed by a copy of the first 39 bars to a TAG ending for the out.

Thanks everyone for the help. I settled on the sambafst style at 220bpm which is a smooth cut-time style. I expanded the chord durations too.
I think this may work.

Thanks again

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
