HOLD ME ONCE
Ken Mattox/Steve Mattox

Mary sings the same songs every night, watches the door for any glint of light
Hoping one time, he’ll walk in, the man who will take her away and let love begin
She keeps her light on, she sings dead love songs
They don’t mean a thing, just a broken dream

Mary sings her torch songs in a local bar to all the drunkards and an empty jar
Whispers every good man’s prayers and old man’s dreams, hoping one night, he’ll buy her a drink
She shines in neon, she breathes her love songs
In a solemn voice like she has a choice

Hold me once and never let me go, hold me twice and we will dance no more
Hold me through the night ‘til I see the light, and I’ll say I love her so

I live her love songs; I keep my light on

Mary sings the songs that make the sinners cry with a weathered voice only she can sigh
I listen to every word of her lonely voice, hoping one night she’ll make me her choice

Hold me once and never let me go, hold me twice and we will dance no more
Hold me through the night ‘til I see the light, and I’ll say I love her so

Hold me once and never let me go, hold me twice and we will dance no more
Hold me through the night ‘til I see the light, and I’ll say I love her so

Thanks for sharing Mattox! I really enjoy the vibe of this one, sounds like a classic old school country song. The lyrics really capture the feelings experiences in the writing of this. Can't wait to hear the rest of the CD!

There's a lot to like about this tune. Interesting chord changes and good lyrics. You are definitely developing a unique Mattox sound with your songs. Enjoyed my listen.

Excellent production.

Kinda reminded me of Gordon Lightfoot a little bit.

Great song.
