Since I installed BIAB on my new computer I am noticing a strange hissing/static sound that only occurs randomly and on random bars and seems to only occur at the start of a bar!

I assumed it was because I had not yet activated my BIAB...some sort of copy protection...but it is still occurring after I activated.

It does not occur on every song and I have not yet noticed any patterns to report. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I very much doubt that it has anything to do with registration.

More information please? Driver: ASIO / MME?
RealTracks or MIDI or both?
Once it occurs, is it repeatable at only specific bars?
etc

I remember you had some heavy nose breathing in one of the RT's I had to take out.

As a programmer who has implemented various copy protection schemes, to me this seemed very much like a copy protection scheme like those used in trial products. Sometimes they drop out sound on playback, sometimes insert a watermark and sometimes add noise. But, as I said, it did not stop after activation. And this has NEVER occurred on my previous computer running BIAB since 2012.

It occurs in ASIO and MME.

I have only noticed it so far in RealTracks and maybe only on already existing songs (but not sure about that).

Once it occurs it will occur again on the next play (or generate) but usually at a different bar.

Yes, I remember that! But that was consistent and repeatable!

How so? It could still be a flawed CP/activation system.

Try different speakers, as sometimes they can cause a hissing sound, or electrical interference in background.

Can you 'see' this on the track(s) audio edit window?
In other words, is it something that gets written to the file, or a playback issue?

Nope. Not speakers as they work fine on my other computer and it is so random and always occurs on a bar.

Hi lk123,

A strange hissing sound on random bars is often caused by an unregistered VST/DXi plugin.

For example: if a Realtrack that loads Amplitube is present in the mix of instruments, and Amplitube has not been registered with IK Multimedia, then once the trial period for Amplitube's use is over, hissing will occur as a reminder to register the software. (Even though Amplitube is freeware, it still needs to be registered.)

With the above in mind, next time the hissing occurs, can you please grab a screen shot of your BIAB desktop and post it in this thread so we can see what instruments are loaded.

To post an image, have a look at the link below.

I bought several quite expensive VST things from IK in the past, and got really fed up with their copy protection and registering schemes; it usually f***s up after a while, so i never use them anymore. I got a 'reworked' old version of amplitube from someone once: no problems with that and no registering needed. Hackers seem to be running off laughing as always.

I just started getting an annoying hissing sound on my playback on real tracks. It's random and pops up at different intervals. What is causing it and how can I get rid of it? I couldn't call tech support today because they were closed and the online chat person couldn't help me either.

Hi Bernman,

If you scroll up a couple of posts you'll see my previous post.

Strange hissing sounds are usually to do with plug-ins that have passed their free trial update. It's an annoyance that software companies often add to their programs to remind people to purchase them.

BIAB comes with a free version of Amplitube. As mentioned in my post above, even though it's free, it still needs to be registered. That might be the issue.

Regards,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
