We all dread, but most of us have gotten, the call where a loved one has passed. We are sad at first but then realize they were a good person and are going to someplace better. That is what we were trying to capture in this song.

JonD just started to doodle around on his keyboard and came up with the basis for this song. We ran to BiaB, input his chords, dumped it into Sonar and recorded this.

The BiaB style was Citadel - Meditative New Age 3/4

I deleted all but the strings but I did modify the strings to better fit the song.

JonD is playing the lead via his MIDI keyboard controller. He also played block chords with his left hand. I did not like the block chords so in Sonar I set the PRV grid to 64th note and for each chord I increased each ascending note by a 64th. This sounded better but not quite right so I copied the chords and placed them one octave above and a 64th note increase above the existing chord. I then changed the sound to a harp.

I played everything else on my MIDI keyboard controller.

We hope you like it.

The Call

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

MarioD, what an ethereal and meditative piece! I found the the passage from 2:10-3:00 very interesting! The build at the end was great! You did a great job! Thanks, Torrey.

Hi Mario,

This brought tears to Di's eyes - good tears, mind you. As you probably know, we got that call two years ago when our son passed away from kidney cancer. We'd received that call twice before when two of our younger children died. She said to tell you "Thank you for the grace and beauty of this composition. It's so soothing and comforting." I couldn't agree more.

This is so serene. And the build of the layers kept a renewed anticipation with each approaching movement. We both thank you for the watery smiles.

Alan & Di

Nothing more soothing than an excellent piece of music like this. This is a beautiful piece. I listened to your piece yesterday as it popped up in my Soundcloud and when I read your introduction to the song it put a smile on my face as the music capture exactly how you and John were feeling. Well done

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this has certainly surprised me in a very reflective way.

Beautifully presented, with rich passages.

The build works well, uplifting and rewarding. Great effort for sure.

Mario, This piece started out so sad that I got a little teary eyed and then it opened up to a more peaceful segment. It did exactly what you intended for it to do. Very well played and composed. Beautiful, Tom

Confucious said, "Music is like a flock of birds on a still pond, who take flight, circle the pond, and land back where they began."
Or something like that.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
