I know this one has been thrown a lot on rthe forum, but please make 6/8 an actual time signature that can be recognized in BIAB. I don't understand why we have 6/8 Real Tracks if there's BIAB does not validate 6/8 as a legitimate time signature. Also, please add cut time not "fast four" there is a difference.

I agree; and also have true 6/8 styles that support it. Many (usually slower) 6/8 songs also change chords within the eighth not division, so you can't properly enter the chords for 6/8 unless you use two 3/4 bars to represent it, and that doesn't always sound right.

It would also allow for better processing of songs from MIDI or MusicXML where the original time signature was 6/8.

I realize this would break the ability of previous versions to process songs from a version that supported this, but it may be time to make that break and move forward with new features like this.

What's really needed is the ability to support 16th note divisions not just with notes, but with chords. I get that you won't be able to do a 17/16 song, but 16 chord divisions would allow support for anything up to 16.

But I would settle for 8th note chord divisions, which would in theory get us 2/2, 2/4, 2/8, 3/4, 3/8, 4/4, 5/8, 6/8, and 7/8. Having 16, however, would allow for 9/8 and 12/8, as well as the ones in between (but are rare).

It's all really just math, and I bet they could even figure out a way to even convert/modify existing MIDI styles to natively support those new time signatures.

One day, maybe...

+1 The #1 priority for me would the ability to enter 8 chords to a bar of 4/4 or 6 chords to a bar of 3/4. I could live with using 2 bars of 3/4 to simulate 6/8 then.

+1 for these time signatures and while you are at it add all time signatures like 5/4, 7/4 etc.

I know this has been requested many times and many times I have added my +1

A must have for a pro software as BIAB.

In the other hand, it has been requested probably for about 20 years.
If it was so easy, we already got it ...!

Regarding 6/8 time signatures: I've been buying BIAB since the days of DOS. This has bothered me right from the start.

Just one example"Take Five" in 3/4 +2/4 just never sounds right. (That's true of every unsupported meter which requires the alternating time signatures work around.)

Plus it's very difficult to follow both visually onscreen, and because the accented beat carries the same weight in both measures that are supposed to represent one REAL measure.

Worse: lead sheets look truly Mickey Mouse when printed. ( I can't give these charts to pros on a gig!) It's long past time to make these time signatures native.

It's really the one glaring weakness that I just can't ignore.

Please, Please make BIAB a professional tool for musicians who use these meters!
I'm a BIAB proselytizer! Help me out!

Welcome Ron,

I completely agree. This has been placed in the Wishlist forum many times and each time I gave it a big +1. All time signatures like 5/4, 7/4, 6/8 etc should be native. You should be able to print lead sheets and import into any DAW in those time signatures.

You are not alone in this quest!

+1 for being able to correctly print out odd time signatures as well as 6/8, 9/8 and 12/8. So Near, So Far comes to mind as a chart that can't be printed correctly.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
