Hi everyone, this is my first posting to the Showcase, a song called 'A Sidecar Named Desire' - https://soundcloud.com/russell-moore-485872794/a-sidecar-named-desire I wrote the song originally in around 1992/3-ish while in a band in Northern Ireland called Five Mile High. We were reasonably successful in a 'local' sort of way but, in time-honoured tradition, didn't quite make it and of course then vanished into marriages, mortgages, children & day jobs etc. Then, last Christmas I bought a copy of Band in a Box and began to 'dabble' again in music after a gap of over 25 years. This then is a BB-based re-recording of the song, using some kind of bespoke style made up of funky Real Tracks that matched how I'd always imagined the instruments being played, plus a bit of live guitar in the main riff and a synth pad in the chorus. It was edited, mixed & mastered in Magix Samplitude Music Studio. I hope you all like it and would love to hear from you... Russell

Good song! Very catchy. Great vocals, I especially like the chorus bit. "realband" sounds good, nice choice of instruments and mix.
Excellent first post, looking forward to hearing more!

Hi Russell,
Welcome to the PG Music Forums.
This is great first offering. We really enjoyed this. The horns are a great touch and the background vocals are superb. great lyric and the production is really good.
Only suggestion we have is to give your lead guitar, which is terrific, a little more volume in the mix. Great job on this ... sounds like you've been using BIAB for a long time!
Again, welcome to the forums and thanks for a really great listen! Wishing you the best,
Alan & Di

Welcome to the showcase Russell, and thanks for sharing! The effects on the vocals instantaneously make make me think of Phil Collins - which is a good thing! I love the progression on this, especially got the horns come in! You deserve to be proud of this, I can't wait to hear more from you!
Cheers, Deryk

I really like the sound of this!
Very good vibe, feel, overall drive, and excellent choice of instruments and mixing/mastering.
I happen to like the levels exactly the way they are on this.
Welcome to the forum and great post. Thanks a lot for sharing!!!

Hi everyone, thank you so much for all your kind words - seems like there might be some life in this old dog yet, lol... I really haven't had that much experience of BIAB but I guess having been the writer/arranger in various bands over the years it's nice to (finally) have a limitless pool of top-class musicians who, with a bit of post-BIAB editing & cutting etc, will do pretty much whatever I can imagine! And oh the joy of being able to mute the drums when arranging the rest of the band! My Soundcloud page ( https://soundcloud.com/russell-moore-485872794/tracks) has links to a wider selection of my stuff from over the decades and there are a couple of other BIAB-based tracks in there which I'll also post separately on this forum with the backstory etc. Again, thanks for taking the time to listen and comment - I feel like I've found a new gang of friends to play with... Cheers, Russell

This has such a nice retro feel, reminds me of those 80's Brit bands with a soul flavour (Style Council, Blow Monkeys). Great first entry, BIAB really brings the song alive, great selection of soulful instruments, I'm looking for more Janne

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
