Heartache or GoodbyeThis is a song I (Alan) wrote back in 2006. I rerecorded it a couple of months ago using all BIAB backing tracks. You're stuck with my singing - Di just isn't up to it. Just one question ... is the vocal a little too much up front? I tend to think so. But my 70 year-old ears sometimes deceive me. All comments about that, or anything else, are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Alan,
This is a great song - for me, this is your best vocal. You sound totally in control and I love the tone you're getting. When you first started singing I thought I was listening to Charlie Rich... Really outstanding.
BTW, your mix is excellent - would not change anything.

Alan,
Nice job on this! I closed my eyes and got transported back in time to one of those high school dances where the girls wear gowns and the boys dress like penguins. (This would be the slow dance in my imagined time travel saga. Complete with a mirror ball rotating slowly to the tempo...)

The vocals are not too up front for me. It's kind of an Elvis Presley mix and reminds me of an Elvis Presley song as a matter of fact. With that type of song, the vocals can be really up front. I suppose you can pull it back a tad if you wanted to, but you don't have to. I really like this song by the way.

Loved the mix. Your vocal is setting right where it should. Loved the vocal. I also got the Elvis feel to the tune. Backtrack and sax were very cool...

Good song, and mix is perfect for these (63 year old :P) ears. I like your voice, it has a lot of personality if that makes any sense? Good tone and control, nice vibrato.

Thanks, Torrey Thank you so much, Torrey. I'm delighted you enjoyed the song. I have a couple more waiting in the wings. As far as my "output" of songs, 8 months of chemo gives you quite a bit of time to write! Also, being 70 years old and retired, I have a little more time on hand than many folks here do. Again, thank you. Wishing you the very best. ALan

Hi Pat, What a pleasure hearing from you! Di says "Hi!". I;m delighted this works for you. Thanks for letting me know. And I can vividly remember those "sock hops" and more formal dances. I graduated in 1965. And yep, a penguin would have been proud of my appearance. Had a good time at them, though! The little band we had played at two of them. Wishing you the very best. Di sends a hug! Alan & Di

Alan,
As others have mentioned... this is one of your "best ever" vocals - well sung and well recorded. (I thought it could be pulled back just a little).
Very nice arrangement. Really like the use of the sax here...
A very enjoyable listen.
Best to you both...

What a beautiful melancholy song, lovely singing and perfect backing track. Could be an excellent theme song for a movie. Reminds me somehow of Nat King Cole.

Hello, Alan
Very beautiful song! Your vocal is perfectly fitted to this song. I like that the song starts from Sub-dominant instead of Tonic. And I also like the chord progression at "Thought everything was perfect". Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
