This song honors Greg Allman, and all the great Southern musicians who left us too soon. It contains 19 BB and RB tracks including two drummers, as befitting an Allmans tribute. https://soundcloud.com/willrockwell/rebel-on-the-runRebel on the Run GDEm Sing those nights in the country GDEm sing that warm summer breeze GDEm sing the great land of Dixie CEmD and the sons of the South GDEm They buy it on the highway GDEm They buy it in the air GDEm I guess we all must go some day CEmD it just doesn't seem fair GCAmD Rebel on the run, you've got to have your fun GCAmDG Rebel on the run, will you still be with us when the morning come GDEm First he took Duane and Berry GDEm it was hard to understand GDEm now he's come for little brother CEmD he must have a hell of a band GDEm Just when we seem to get things started GDEm We're facing still another test GDEm The biggest guns are soon departed CEmD we always seem to lose the best GCAmD Rebel on the run, you've only just begun GCAmDG Rebel on the run, I know you love it, you've got to have your fun GDEm You're gonna hear a big noise GDEm I cannot tell you when GDEm but save your Confederate money boys CEmD the South is gonna rise again GCAmD Rebel on the run, always second to none GCAmDG Rebel on the run, no hesitation, you know who's number one GCAmD Rebel on the run, you've got to have your fun GCAmDG Rebel on the run, will you still be with us when the morning come

This is really catchy rocking song, very clear mix. It has some nice Irish rock vibe in it.

That's an interesting observation Janne, since bluegrass is derived from Irish music, and all Southern rock is influenced by bluegrass. I imagined this as a tribute performance by a stage full of musicians, and the RB soloists do a commendable job filling that stage. One of the solo guitars is mine, the simplest one.

Hi Will.
A really cool song with a great arrangement.
I can tell a lot of work went into this one and it's certainly paid dividends.
So much going on in the backing and yet the mix is still clear and powerful.
One of your best.
ROG.

Thanks Rog, the mix would not have been possible without automation and a lot of listening. My Sennheiser HD6 Mix headphones were a big help in making sure instruments pop out of the mix.

As someone else mentioned - man, is this ever catchy! I like the hint of Irish vibes added to this southern rock sound; it makes it stand out a lot more. And you can never go wrong mixing with Sennheisers! I use the exact same model headphones when I'm mixing as well.
Thanks for sharing, Will!
Cheers, Deryk

Catchy! I really like the placement of instruments and vocals...AND totally love the background vocals!
I think you made those who have passed on proud with this song! Great job!

I am from Daytona, same as the Allman's, and I had dinner once with Duane and Berry, so the lyrics are personal and heartfelt.

Thanks so much Joe, that means a lot. A friend of mine who is a retired record executive said he thought this was my "best yet" (he hasn't heard very many, it's certainly not my best) and suggested changing the lyric "got to have your fun". I won't do that, I picked that line before I rhymed it with "rebel on the run". The whole point was that so many southern musicians died having too much fun, on motorcycles for instance. I guess I feel a little guilty not following his advice, but the choice of words was not random.

This song was always about honoring the southern musicians who died too soon, Duane Allman, Berry Oakley, Tommy Caldwell and Ronnie VanZandt. I've changed the lyrics to honor the greatest of them all, Tom Petty. https://soundcloud.com/willrockwell/rebel-on-the-run
