Hi folks,

I'm embarking on a new duo project with backing tracks using BIB. However, I find it difficult to do fills and custom bass lines and intros within BIB itself. Ultimately, I am going to export to stems, either from BIB or Logic, because I need the stems to play from MainStage.

My question, before I do a hundred of them, is, has anyone else done something similar, and, should I simply export the basic beds from BIB to Logic, or forget it and just do it all in Logic? I'm trying to figure out if there is a better workflow than this.

Thanks for your time.
Dean

Export the basic beds from BIB to Logic then do all the rest in Logic.

I've been asked this question so many times that I set up a web page to answer your question.

Thanks. I was thinking \i would then export the stems out of \logic as Bass, Drums, Etc so that \i could have individual control while playing

Is there a way to convert the \real tracks/drums to midi before dropping them into \Logic or is this something I would have to do in Logic?

Thank you for your assistance.

In the RealDrums Preferences uncheck Use RealDrums or click on the drum track Use Midi Drums. You can drag the RealChart to DROP MID then into Logic if it has an underscore under the track or just use a midi only style.

Awesome thanks. It's tempting to just use the Real audio as played except I want to use some of my own sounds. First World problems, right?

Hi Notes

Thanks for the link.

The “groove filter” you mentioned is that in Master Tracks Pro?

Hi Notes

Thanks for the link.

Col

Yes, but I suppose other sequencers have something equivalent.

Master Tracks Pro was purchased from Passport by GVox long ago, and they let it go stagnant. I think all they really wanted was Passport's other product, Encore.

MTPro no longer works on Win10. I don't know if the Mac version works on OSX or not. Since I use my sequencer with the BiaB style maker a lot, I use it exclusively on the PC, as the BiaB StyleMaker in the PC has more features than the one on the Mac (or at least it did, I haven't tried the Mac StyleMaker for years). MTPro was a Mac program before it was ported to Windows, and I first used it on my Mac Classic II and my Atari/ST.

I have an old XP computer that I use for that. I like MTPro because it does not have audio included. That means faster loading, and faster working as everything is available from single drop down menus, not a menu with a sub menu with another sub menu. When doing a lot of clicking, in the end it saves a lot of time with my hands on the computer, and gives me more time with my hands on the synth keyboard or wind synth keys.

In MTPro every change dialog box includes a button that activates the change filter.

This enables you to do things like for example.

If you wanted to move only the second and forth beats ahead or behind the beat by so many tics.

1) Highlight the entire track

2) In the Change menu select "Slide Data" and check how many tics left or right you want the beats (along with any continuous controller data) moved and in what direction and click the use Change Filter box

3) Clicking the box opens the Change filter, click the appropriate boxes and only select beats 2 and four then click OK

4) With these few clicks, you can move everything that falls on beat 2 on every instrument (or whatever you select first) ahead or behind the beat by as many tics as you want. Listen, if it's too much or too little, click Undo and try again until you like it.

You can change other things with the filter as well, examples:

It seems I've reached the limit of how many pictures I can add, or else I'm doing something wrong, so I'll continue on the next post.

And so on.

So it becomes a very powerful tool for manipulating data.

You can add a very slight swing feel the 16th notes of a snare drum and lower the volume of every other one just a bit so the rolls don't sound so much like a machine gun (every drummer has a strong and weak hand).

You can exaggerate of minimize pitch bend in the controller box by a certain percentage if you like.

You can do the same with velocity to exaggerate or minimize the dynamics of an instrument.

And rather than doing it note by note, measure by measure it can be done globally and selectively.

I still use MTPro because it saves me time. I suppose some day when my XP wears out, I'll have to use a combination MIDI/Audio app, but for right now I can do my MIDI work much quicker in MTPro, then import my MIDI to a DAW to add the audio. This saves me hours per week and lets me make more music.
