You Called Me By Her Name Last Night

Here is a new blues collaboration with Janice.

We wrote this one again with Janice in mind who (no surprise here) sings sublimely (the outro is amazing).

Leon wrote the lyrics and I played the guitar solo bits.

Thanks to Bud for support, a lend of his ears, and recording Janice.

The rest of the band:
RealTracks in style: 564:Bass, Electric, Blues Monday Sw 065
RealTracks in style: 565:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Blues Monday Sw 065
RealTracks in style: ~~585:Guitar, Resophonic, Rhythm Blues Muddy Sw 120
RealTracks in song: ~~425:Organ, B3, Background Blues Sw 120
RealDrums in style: Nashville128^01-a:SideStick, b:Ride

You called me by her name last night

Everything is clear now
I am awake
Thought I had a true love
But all of it was fake

Everything is crystal
So much I could say
Doesn’t seem to matter, though
Everything has changed

You called me by her name last night
No apology can put that right
I was only ever your back-up plan
Took so long but now I understand
Should’ve known that something wasn’t right
You called me by her name last night

It will disappear now
The future I thought fated
Everything is clear now
All the time that I have wasted

Everything is clear now
My viewpoint has been shifted
Whisper in your ear, my love
Should’ve known that you were twisted

You called me by her name last night
You cried a little and you held me tight
All I was to you was a back-up plan
Turns out you were just a hollow man
Should’ve known that something wasn’t right
You called me by her name last night

Ooooooooo
I trusted you
Oooooooooo
I trusted you

You called me by her name
Nothin’ ever gonna be the same
You called me by her name last night
You called me by her name last night

What a great mix

The B3 slots just perfectly.

Janice, as usual, delivers a stellar performance.

The guitar work, actually everything, just sits in the mix absolutely perfectly.

All wrapped up with a sensational ending. Smooth.

Congratulations, team.

What a tune! I really, really enjoyed this one. It sounds incredibly professional, and I wouldn't bat an eye if I heard this on the radio alongside other classics. Of course, Janice's vocal delivery is flawless as usual - but what really got me was how well written and arranged this tune was. All of the instruments (vocals included) meld together perfectly, and the volumes and EQ's just sound so nicely balanced. Not to mention that guitar solo was incredible! You seriously make songwriting and mixing sound easy here.

Not a thing I'd change here, guys - great work, and thanks so much for sharing smile

great vocals by Janice

this is a link to a song "I'm Not Lisa" by Jessi Colter from years ago

your song made me think of this, I remember when I heard it, I put

that idea in my mental file bank as excellent song material.

Strong use of it in this song,

enjoyed,

Kenny

Hi Peter,

Of course Janice can do no wrong in my eyes, but even taking that into account, this is a wonderful production in it's own right.

Inspired lyrics and everything working well.

The superb ending was the icing on the cake.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
