I want to use substyle A for RT drums, but also want to use midi Strings which seem to only work with substyle B - is there any way to do get the Strings to be on substyle A?

Sorry if this is an obvious answer - but it is stumping me at the moment.

Thanks.

Hmm. You could generate the song using substyle A, freeze the drum track, change to substyle B, and regenerate. Some variation of this trick should get you where you want to be.

Tried Freezing the drum track with substyle A, and the changing the song to B substyle so I can have strings- this worked for the first 8 bars, but at bar 9 where the substyle is B, the drums switch to the B substyle. Maybe I am not 'freezing' correctly?

And again, is there any way to get midi Strings on substyle A?

Right, you have to go back and forth.

Alter the song so it is substyle A at bar 9 and wherever you want substyle A for drums. Generate, and freeze the drum track. Then alter the song back to add the B substyle and your frozen drums still play A. Likewise, make the whole song substyle B, freeze the string part, alter the song back and use F5 at a bar to mute the strings where desired. If not muted, they will play throughout because they were frozen in the B substyle (except for where you mute them).

Experiment.

OK - I froze the strings (substyle B) regenerated,etc... then changed song to substyle A to get the desired drum style - I have an 8 bar intro that I mute everything but drums - but with the strings frozen, the strings play thru the intro even with the bar setting muting them.... making progress, but still not there... again - WHY ARE STRINGS ENABLED ONLY WITH SUBSTYLE B?
Thanks.

I don’t know why muting wouldn’t work. Try doing that before freezing the strings. An alternative is to set the volume to zero.

As to strings only being in B, that’s just a musical judgement. It’s standard stuff for arrangers, where the strings come in on the bridge (chorus). What you could do is go to the Styles Wishlist Forum and request some styles to be modified to have strings in the A sub style as well. That should be easy for PG Music if they agree there is a need.

I’m assuming no such styles exist yet. Anybody else know of any?

Seems I made an incorrect assumption, but I thought 'freezing the track' meant the style. not the entire set of chord changes...

And muting did not work, nor did changing the volume to zero in the bar setting...

What I thought would be a simple change has become anything but...
Thanks for your efforts...

If you want the strings on the "A" substyle, just go into the style editor and copy the strings "B" style riffs to the strings "A" style riffs, save it as a new style file. Make sure all the other settings are the same. That new style file will now play strings with both the the "A" and "B" substyles. You can then mute the strings track wherever you don't want to hear them.

In other words, make your own (modified) style and save it by a unique name. Thanks, John.

I don't understand this, unless you did it to frozen tracks.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
