Hello, everybody

This is my last post this year.
This tune is a remake version of my live recorded song about 2 years ago.
This time I used RealTracks to post it on this forum.
Any comments encouraged.
Always welcome.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi

Summary of lyrics:

I am walking alone on Sunday afternoon
I got accustomed to having no one walking next to me

Always my lips tightly tied
Pretending to be strong I am just looking forward

What are you doing now in a distant town
I am still living in the crowd as in old days

As I know we will never meet again
My shadow alone in the glass seems to be so lonely

You surely forgot that you fell in love with me, didn’t you
Me, I’ll never fall in love again, I don’t want to

Today too as usual in the city
Strangers are living back to back with each other
I can’t stop thinking to start over with you again if I could

And he summed it up with the word “masterpiece.”

Your attention to detail along with the lovely vocal makes it a joy to listen to.

Shigeki...

I believe you have achieved something rare, if not one-of-a-kind, with your song "3 in the Afternoon".

Where I have I heard such gloriously arranged music put into the service of carrying the weight of lyrics that speak so profoundly about the misery and the sickness of loneliness???

...no one walking next to me...

...in a distant town...

...living in the crowd...

My shadow alone in the glass...

Strangers are living back to back with each other...

It's as though you were describing the end of the idea of love...the alienation of emotions...the loss of all hope. This is a case of music "saying" one thing, and the lyrics expressing something entirely opposed to the music. If it had been composed for a film, I'd be hesitant to watch it because of its irony, which is frightening.

As "ScottC" so perceptively observed, "This song had a different feel to it than some of your other tunes." I've never heard anything like it.

Hello, Alan, Janice & Bud, Scott, floyd, Robert, Sergio, David, Trevor, Lawrence, Loren, Rich

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I much appreciate your really nice words and continuous supports.
I am very happy to hear you all like this tune, Natsuki's vocal and my orchestration.

Robert,
Thank you for your comment to the original version.
The original live band version was not shared in this forum because the drums are played by a beginner. Sorry.

David,
Since Natsuki is originally a jazz vocalist, she is good at English songs.
But I cannot get in touch with her now. It seems that she changed her phone number.
I think that she will inform me probably sooner or later, so I will talk about your song at that time.

Loren,
Thank you very much for your nice comments to the lyrics.
This lyrics was written by Yayoi Suzuki.
She belongs to an amateur lyricist group called "Escargot", with which our music circle is collaborating often.
A professional lyricist is instructing them, and we are provided many wonderful lyrics by them.
This is one of them and my favorite, as the solitude is properly expressed.
So I carefully put the song on. I thought that the major key fit better. The major keys can express sadness more sometimes. But I don't know if it worked well or not on this tune.

Thanks again to all.
Happy holidays!

Best regards.

Dear Shigeki...

I think your choice of the major key was the thing that so vividly exposed the contrast between the loveliness of the music and the fatalism of the lyrics. It was an ingenious, inspired decision to make, Shigeki, as it created a great deal of tension. The ear is soothed by the luxurious arrangement while the mind is caught off-guard by the troubling lyrics.

Put another way, the musical context clashes with the lyrical subtext, but in a brooding and dramatic way. In my experience, this level of sophistication in songwriting is exceedingly rare, and as such makes "3 in the Afternoon" a deep and rich listening experience.

Truly impressed,

LOREN
