Hi, when I started realband it told me the prior run had crashed and asked if I wanted to run reset. I said yes. It asked me to chose the midi device. After I chose it I got this message.

Quote:
Warning. Your audio device is using a sample rate of 48000 which is different than the current song sample rate of real band (44100). This might cause undesirable ringing noise in playback. Click on this message to open the windows playback control panel.

I went back and it turns out when I choose either of the midi devices below I get the above message.

Quote:
Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth
Microsoft Midi Mapper

So I clicked the yellow message and I get this list of playback devices:

Quote:
NVIDIA HDMI Output (port 0)
NVIDIA HDMI Output (port 1)
NVIDIA HDMI Output (port 2)
NVIDIA HDMI Output (port 3)
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio Default Device).

The Speakers is the one that has the green checkmark so I assume that is what I am running. I am using Windows 7 by the way.

I am a little nervous about making any changes. Does anyone have any experience here and suggestions? For now I am just going to try a mixdown and see if I hear a ringing noise in playback.

Thanks,
John

Click on that message and look, even if you don't want to touch anything.

Sounds like a playback or record setting in Windows set to a different rate. It likely would not hurt to change to 44.1 (unless you are working with audio/video production or something). You can always change it back.

Right click your Speaker icon, select Playback (or Record) device.
Make sure the one you are using is selected and click Properties, then Advanced.
Here you should find a drop down with different rates that Windows will use.
I'd try 16/44 and see if it goes away.

Thanks Rhavr, I found the sample rate and changed it to 44100. If fixed it (realband does not report a problem now). When I changed it I clicked the test button and it sounds the same to me

I am curious if one of these is better than the other and if so why? Currently I have the top one selected.

In my experience, avoid MIDIMapper.
It adds another layer (via Windows) that often causes issues.

PGMusic support has also suggested the same. In this scenario, select the MS GS Wavetable synth (even if you don't use it) .. it helps the OS play nice with BiaB and RB

A temp problem got solved somehow.

The Problem:
I am not 100% sure if it is related but now when I use BIAB to export a BIAB file to .wav only the track 6 midi track gets heard (no real tracks). I tried setting it back to 48000 with no effect. In realband I tried setting to the "MS GS Wavetable synth" to be sure and so far no luck. I tried rebooting windows with no effect. I attached a png of my BIAB settings for saving to audio. They are the same as I have always been using as far as I can tell.

Solved:
So I tried it again and it is working at the 48000 setting. Lets try it again at the 44100 setting. It still works now at 44100. That was strange. Maybe it was because I had realband set to the other "Microsoft Midi Mapper" driver for a short while there and I had to do something to get it to recognize the other one (the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth).

John,

In BIAB, for successful creation of an audio file, it's necessary to have a VSTi/DXi synth installed. I use the general midi synth Coyote WT.

If you follow the settings on my image below, they should give you audio output. It is a quirk of BIAB's that Realtracks, which have nothing to do with midi, still require a midi synth to be present for successful export.

EDIT: I see that while I was typing the above, you solved your problem and this post is not necessary. I'll leave it in the thread, though. Someone might find it useful. Glad you got it working!

Thanks Noel,

I was not sure if setting my realband back to "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" was why My BIAB export to .wav started working again but as a result of your post now I am sure. Lots to learn :-) I come back to these threads now and then if I need to do something again.

Regards,
John

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
