Hi all!

I was wondering if someone could explain how it works with the dots after the cord.... I know you can stop all or some instruments. But what os the use of 1,2 or 3 dots (more?) after the cords? Is there any other similar objects you can use?

I didn't find much in the manual and searching here only gave a partial answer.

Thanks a lot

They are Rests (one period), Shots (two) and Holds (three). You can read about this in Help, Index, Rests.

There are no more (like four periods).

These, along with the carat ^ for Pushes [Help, Index, Pushes], are very powerful and make the song much more realistic. You do not have to use the periods to enter these, though. You can do the same in Chord Settings [right-click on a chord, Chord Settings]. If you enter pushes, rests shots and holds this way, they will still appear in the Chordsheet View with these special characters.

Note that you can specify which tracks do NOT do the action by adding track letters after the dots. For example, Dm7.db means, instruments won't play on this Dm7 chord except for drums (d) and bass (b), which will play.

And to add to what Matt said, to use this feature you have to understand that this feature uses the legacy track names (Base, Drums, Piano, Guitar, and Strings.

(Note: I intentionally misspelled "Bass" as "Base", because when I highlight the first letter, the forum software police sees the last three letters of the word bass as a bad word and as such, displays asterisks in its place.) smile

However, now, when you assign a particular instrument to a track, it picks up the name of the instrument (which doesn't have to correspond to the track name) rather than the track name, so you don't necessarily see the names "Bass, Drums, Piano, Guitar, and Strings". Instead you might see "Electric Bass", "Acoustic Set", "Electric Piano", "Fingerpicked Guitar", and "Tenor Saxophone".

But to use the rest, shots, and holds feature, you have to use the first letter of the legacy names to indicate which instruments to exclude from the feature.

So, to play a hold on a C7 chord for all instruments except the "Tenor Saxophone" (using the example above), you would enter:

C7...S <-- hold all on C7 except Strings track, because the "Tenor Saxophone" is on the "Strings (S)" track.

If you want all the instruments to do a single hit (shot), but have the Electric Bass and the Acoustic Drum Set keep playing, you would enter:

C7..BD <-- have all do a hit (shot) on C7 except Bass and Drums tracks, because the "Electric Bass" is on the "Bass (B)" track and the "Acoustic Drums Set" is on the "Drums (D)" track.

If you want all instruments to rest (not play) except the Electric Piano and the Fingerpicked Guitar, you would enter:

C7.PG <-- Rest all (silence) except for Piano and Guitar tracks, because the "Electric Piano" is on the "Piano (P)" track and the "Fingerpicked Guitar" is on the "Guitar (G)" track.

Hope that made sense.

Yes, more very helpful info. Seeing the legacy track names is still an option, but I no longer know whether it's the default setting.

All about that bass, I didn't know there was a forum censoring problem. Interesting.

I think it's because the letter 'B' is encapsulated with the codes to make it bold. That leaves three separate letters. You know what they are.

That's exactly what it is.

One time, I was participating on a MIDI forum run by some British folks, and in the course of a posting, I used the first name "Dick" (for example, Dan Rowan and Dick Martin). The forum software substituted "Thingy" for "Dick" So the post said, "Dan Rowan and Thingy Martin".

"Thingy"?

Ha. Those British folk. Always so politically correct, what say! blush

However, I really think they may have taken political correctness too far that time wink .
