Greetings Forum Friends

I've been very concerned lately about the rising tensions between the US and North Korea. So what would any self-respecting songwriter do... I wrote a song about how I feel.

In the mid 1990's I was serving in the US Air Force and forward based in South Korea as tensions rose. We knew that any day we could be going to war and any night artillery could rain down on us from the north. We were proud to be peacekeepers deterring war. We were even more pleased to head home after our deployment.

In this song, I project my experiences into the current situation. It is a servicemember's prayer for restraint, calm, and peace.

Just a few more notes to help with understanding the lyrics. Korea is called "The Land of the Morning Calm" The lines about fire, wind, earth, sea are symbols on the Flag of South Korea as it the symbol of balance an harmony.

I'll post the song technical elements in a few days with the SoundCloud link for PGM radio.

I hope you listen, enjoy, and understand our latest song, "The Morning Calm"

Loved the marching snare drum sound to start off the song. You have a nice voice and I liked the song and message overall too. Nice work!

"A Peacekeeper's prayer for calm and restraint in the face of rising tensions"
What a significant message you've created.

Well put together.

PS: the word 'Morning' might be incorrectly spelled in the Subject Title. You can probably edit that OK.

I listened, and enjoyed. Thanks for your additional notes - it's always nice to get some background on a song.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi SD!

I gave the US Army 23 years but never got to Korea. My job in the Army had a very small population - 95 of us world-wide, all ranks only five positions in Korea. Let's hope a little reservation and common sense creep into the situation.

Anyway, loved the song! The semi-marching quality you used certainly brought back a few memories. Loved the line "forget about whose button is bigger". That was really good! Very nicely done. The marching drums going to fade at the end was a real nice touch! Good tracks and vocal. Best to you.

Alan

Steve

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. I was planning on makin the snare drum patterns myself, then I found some great samples online.

VT

I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for noting my typo too.

David

Thanks for listening and commenting. I felt the lyrics may be to cryptic without some explanation

"It is a servicemember's prayer for restraint, calm, and peace."

We can only hope so.

And at the very least we should "speak softly while carrying the big stick."

Well done...it should be heard by many.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks. The song idea has been rattling around for a while. I guess it needed a real world catalyst to bring it together.

I'm glad you liked it. I hope it gets some attention. I agree the message is important. I almost felt obligated to write it.

Wow - this was really touching. The vocal delivery and lyricism is what pushed it over the edge for me. The groove is extremely unique, and a big standout as well. It's a wonderful message, and the stripped down nature of this tune helps it hit harder than it would other.

You should be very proud of this one - thanks for sharing with us smile

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
