Charlie, Great idea to use the 6th chords. Not usually heard in banjo music. Captures the ear and it works to perfection to set up the following chord choices. This is a very unique sounding piece of Bluegrass. ( not so easy to do ) Tom

I actually really like the sound the banjo produces. I don't know what it is about it, but the banjo is just so unique sounding. I think you really utilized the banjo sound really well here!

Excellent composition! I love that little banjo line that repeats the two chord sequence, reminds me a bit of Tin Man. Makes the song unique and interesting.

Good stuff, Charlie!

Hi Charlie,

Great tune and performance. This is some real sweet Bluegrass. This is one of the most original banjo sounds I've heard in a very long time - and that you utilized that creativity on a Bluegrass number makes that much more exciting.

Some really nice music here, Charlie. Totally loved it!

Alan

Well done, Charlie.

Terrific chord progression. John Hartford wrote banjo pieces that included chords not usually found in bluegrass, yet kept it sounding bluegrass. You've done that here...

Really nice.

This is a really nice piece. I echo the comments above about the unusual (and captivating) sound from the banjo here. (Almost makes me sorry about all those banjo jokes I tell. Almost. :-) )

Wow - what a tune! The groove on this is unreal. It has so much energy and charisma to it. I can't help but tap my foot, and envision how incredible this would sound performed in a live setting.

Great work smile Thanks for sharing!

As you know the two of us played in bluegrass bands (traditional and progressive) for many years so we are always keen to hear a bluegrass tune on the forum.

The chords definitely took it into the realm of "New Grass." Well done.

Using the mandolin "chops" shows that you have a good feel for the genre.

BTW, Scott Vestal is a fine picker. Used to hear him in a small venue many years ago.

Yep, we like it!!

Thanks for listening Deryk. I had a picture of a small group out under the trees at a festival in my head as I worked out the tune.

Charlie,
A fine tune that really showcases the style ...and then sends it somewhere new ( glad Tom identified the chords that give this an
original flavour).
Toe tapping but relaxing at the same time.

Hello, Charlie

Yes, this is exactly contemporary bluegrass banjo tune.
The chords, Gmaj7 - Cmaj7 that come out repeatedly is not usually heard in banjo music.
Very unique!
And as Noel said, this was a real pleasure to listen to.

Best regards.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
