Real drums are great; haven't bought the new version with sax but the samples are wonderful. For jazz musos, a real double bass and piano would be amazing.

I posted awhile back about real bass. Would like to see bass in the style of Ron Carter, John Pattitucci, Ray Brown, Jaco, Victor Wooten, etc............. Later, Ray

I believe that PG Music should have introduced Realbass before Realtracks and I may even be wrong about this, but I believe that Realbass would have served more BIAB users than Realtracks presently is.
Can't wait for Realbass !!

I second that !
Real Bass is an absolute must because I only use bass and drums on the gig, muting everything else. It would make for a much more live feel on the job, something on the order of the Aebersold play along CD's but with the ability to make your own arrangements.

I already have RealBass. That's 'cause I'm a bass player. lol

I'm sure it'd be a nice feature for most users though.

-1 for RealBass (electric bass, that is). This is one sound that sounds fine with samples. I can't see junking up the hard drive with every real bass pattern out there. I'd prefer that PG Music spend time working on instruments that don't sound so great with samples and are more solo-oriented (pedal steel, sax, trumpet).

Sorry guys...

I very much like the idea of RealBass, but I admit I'd be much happier with RealPiano. Thing is, RealBass is probably much easier to implement, as you can likely break it down to one or two fast styles, one or two mid-tempo styles, and one or two slow styles. RealPiano would be, I suspect, much more player-style-driven, i.e., RealPiano Ray Charles, RP Oscar Peterson, RP Billy Joel, RP Bruce Hornsby, RP Elton John....

(Those, by the way, are my choices for the first five RP styles. )

I posted the following in the Styles wishlist. No reason it couldn't be done in MIDI, too; I just hadn't thought of the Real Instruments. In fact, I'd like to be certain MIDI still happens, since my PC may not have the juice to support Reality. However it gets done, here's my second. -R.

I have BIAB 2006 and, I think, through Style Disk 60 or so. So if this has been covered since then, let me know. However . . .

An unusual request. I'm not asking for new styles per se, but high-energy modern bassists to graft into existing styles. Or maybe these could and should be added as soloists. I'm thinking Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Steve Bailey, Tony Franklin, John Pattitucci, Eric Serra, and many others. Certainly a lot more electric fretless players than just Jaco. 'Real' bassists will come up with many more names.

(I'm specifically excluding Michael Manring, since we all know he is not actually from this planet, but if you want to go for him too, why not? Just that he'd be a style unto himself, since he has been known to play as many as four basses during a piece--simultaneously.)

I've seen Mac's suggestion on how to create a bop soloist, transpose it down and mute the actual bass part to come up with a Mingus-like groove. I'll try that, too, but I'd love to hear the MIDIfied chops of actual fusion players--not trad-jazz or more pop/rock. I know this will be a challenge, but slapping is doable in MIDI!

Thanks for all that you do, PG, and thanks in advance for your consideration of this suggestion.

Richard

Hi DanL
It's not just the bass sound (or sample) that's important, but also the style of playing. More importantly, realbass is now recorded, not sampled.
Wonderful stuff !

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
