Hi, had been thinking of something like this for a while and Dave Brooks 'On My Way Back Home' reminded me to get on with it.

Shirley-Louise just turned 82 and this song has a few of the things she sometimes says in it. The idea was for her to sing the chorus but it was a bit much for her although we used some of her vocal.
(She's not going just yet)

Drums - Nashville Classic Waltz
Bass- RT 1122 - Acoustic Country Waltz
Autoharp - RT 1109 - Old Time Slow Waltz
Guitar - RT 828 - Country waltz

Hope you enjoy it.
Comments and criticism welcome.

Wow - this is a great tune, RichMac smile There are some incredible lyrics in this one, and it sounds so hauntingly beautiful paired with the gentle music. I enjoyed everything about this. Your mother's vocals were a great addition too.

Fantastic job on this - thanks for sharing!

Richard & Shirley-Louise...

Beautifully done. Loved hearing the two of you singing together!

A sad song.

Sounds like Shirley has been threatening to leave for a long time... smile

This really sticks in your head...

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Deryk,

I'm delighted that you enjoyed this.
The lyrics are all part of my wife Shirley-Louise's story.
She's 82 and i'm 78. Old people.

Hi Floyd

Thanks for your sympathetic comments.
Shirley's become a child again and needs most of my time and energy.
Thank goodness she's still mainly a happy person.
Frustrating at times though.
Ah well, we all get old if we don't die first.

Cheers.

So glad I decided to listen in on this, and to understand the story behind it!
Loved the autoharp component.
Also loved how lyrically you approached the topic.
I'll bet Shirley loves hearing what you've done together.
Your project will stick with me.

Man, does that ever pull at the heartstrings. We're glad for you, for her and all of us that you "got on with it" because it resulted in a very touching production that gives us all pause for reflection.

"Thank goodness she's still mainly a happy person." Indeed.

Thanks for sharing this with us....

Richard, I bet Shirley will enjoy singing along with this in the future so it’s a good thing you got it down on tape. You handled the content well. You definitely have a knack for that sort of thing. I enjoyed my listen and I hope you both remain happy, Tom

Hello, Richard

This song has a really nostalgic melody.
I feel as if I heard it somewhere when I was a child.
And your instrumentation choices have ingenuity as usual.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Richard and Shirley-Louise,

I absolutely loved this!

I'm a big fan of waltzes and really enjoyed travelling along with you on this one. The lyrics are sad but they so aptly reflect the essence of life. There's a very timeless quality in your writing. Even now, nearly 10 minutes after listening, I can still here the song really clearly in my mind.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening.

All the best to you both,
Noel

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
