Greetings BIAB'ers,

I know this option exists because I've seen it, but for the life of me know I can't find it.

When I start a new song, I need to change the default so that it only has 1 chorus, not three. And that the starting key is Bb, not C.

WHERE IS THIS DONE? Like I said, I've seen a dialogue box where you can set these, but can't find it now. I can't seem to find anything posted on any of the forum boards here either.

Please Help!

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, welcome back. Since you registered many years ago, could you tell us what version of BIAB you have? It makes a difference to tell you exactly where the answer is located.

Look for three numbers that by default on a new song say 1, 32, 3. The number you want is that last one, 3. Change it to 1.

Somewhere near that, below and to the right, it says Key. That says C by default. Change it to Bb. If you have BIAB 2017 or 2018, you will see two columns; use the one on the left.

Jim,

Tagging on to Matt's comments...

It sounds like you might be in full-screen view. If you use CTRL+T to switch to standard view, the numbers/text that Matt mentions is to the right of the song title window.

Regards,
Noel

Right, assuming he's not running BIAB 2010.

Hey guys - thanks for the quick reply! I've done every upgrade as soon as it's been available, even when I wasn't using it. So I'm on 2018.

I know where to change the number of choruses and the key as it pertains to each individual project. The thing I'd like to access is where to make it so it's always opening up a New Project in Bb and a single chorus, to save me the step of going and manually adjusting it each time.

Thanks!

Hi Jim,

There's no setting that will do this. Every new song starts in C, 1-32 x3.

You could save a blank song that's in Bb with one chorus to use as a template, but would have to open it every time you want to start a new tune, then use Save As the first time you save it instead of Save, to avoid overwriting the template.

This won't really save you any mouse clicks compared to just selecting a new key and number of choruses manually.

You could go to Options - Preferences - Transpose, and select "Transpose the song to the key of Bb" under "Each time a song is loaded", but if you ever make a song in a key other than Bb, it'll be transposed to Bb automatically.

Thanks
Kent

Yes, a template is the way I and many others do this.

After it has been created, just open the template, create your work and save it as the new song name.

THANKS EVERYONE for your input. I think I'll just need to do a template and call it a day.

One more question - I see several of you have the Audiophile collection. Is it worth the $$ for me to upgrade?

Thanks!

Some folk will say yes, some no. There is a difference, albeit quite small, and I have used both and wouldn't go back.

There's an interesting graph on this page that shows non-audiophile (left) and audiophile versions (right)

There is also information about the comparisons on this page that's well worth reading.

I make my templates read-only. That way, I can't accidentally overwrite them and have to do a "save as".

Very cool info - going to call BIAB as soon as I get my net royalty check and upgrade for sure. Should have done it when I started.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
