I am printing my fake sheet as usual, but with 2018 I cannot get BIAB to insert the style in the 'title' area as it had before. If the style is there, it will print it, but it is supposed to insert it if it is empty and you click the box.
Can anyone confirm?
BIAB for Windows Version 2019 (643) Windows 10 (1909)
It works for PGM styles but not for a style in a user category - at least for me.
Ahhh... I don't think that that was mentioned originally.
I've just tried a Norton style (which are filed under "User" styles) and it worked fine for me. After clicking on the "S" button in the image above, it was the "Long File Name" that loaded as the style's information. This was also the case with PG Music styles.
Does the user's style you're working with contain long file name information?
It looks like that box is populated by the style's long name, so for ZZJAZZ.STY, it would say "Jazz Swing Style", not ZZJAZZ.
Am I correct in assuming that the User Style you were using doesn't have a long name? I'm assuming the Norton ones do, which is why it would work with those ones. If that's the case, you'd need to type the style name into that box manually.
Kent I am logged on as Administrator, running build 513, and have done a full rebuild.
All my styles are identified as part of a user category, and are rebuilds of my old Midi (2013) styles with Real Drums.
In the style list they are shown as All Midi (M) in Type. The instrument list in the bottom left corner of the style picker has the old instrument list, and is the same as listed under the style on the chord sheet. When I click on OK from style picker, the mixer shows them as Real Tracks.
Most of the styles have a Long Name, shown in the MISC tab of StyleMaker, and a custom memo in the StylePicker / Action. Neither of these show in the StylePicker listing. The long name is shown as the style name (eg MYSTYLE.STY). There is no long name for BIAB styles shown in the MISC setting of StyleMaker.
The USERSTYLEMEMOS.TXT (bb/data/stylepicker) shows the custom memo but does lists some styles that I have deleted, and fails to show ones I have added.
There seems to be a different approach to building / making styles that does not use StyleMaker.

Right, it doesn't look like that "Long Name" field does anything in the StyleMaker, I'll make sure that's reported.
The long names and descriptions are stored in BBW.LST, in the BB\Data folder. It's explained in a bit more detail here: http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq51.htm#20
Thanks, however the detail you point to is for BIAB 2008, and explains the use of the .LS3 file.
I have an LS3 file in the STYLES folder, but it contains out-of-date information, and was probably moved over from 2013. In fact I am not sure that the BBW.LST is current either. In my library the last modified date was 2015.
The stylz1.bin files seem to be current, but are not editable.
The Debug_user_Temp_styles seems to be current but may or may not contain useful information The StyleListTabDelimited.TXTalso has old MIDI information - probably gathered from the StyleMaker dialog but ignoring the information from the "MORE" tab.
The problem seems to stem from Style Picker not honouring the information in Style Maker, especially where MIDI tracks have been replaced with Real Tracks.
I hope that the developers can resolve this frustrating piece of documentation. Styles work, the Style maker works, but seemingly not together.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
