Hi All,

Here's a song that I wrote many years ago and have revisited from time to time.

Inspired by David & Clifton's last song, I took a very simple instrumental approach to the arrangement to give it more of a "live" sound.

This is called Zero Of Sound.

I'm driving south from Santa Rosa
In a mustang convertible
She's on the red-eye bound for Brooklyn
I can hear those engines whirl
The sky is made of diamonds
As I make my way to town
And the highway curves before me
Like the zero of sound

She was with me at the Fairmont
By the San Francisco Bay
Now she's clear across the country
A million miles away
As I cross the Golden Gate
The sun has long gone down
And the waves move beneath me
Like the zero of sound

Walking down California
I hear the trolleys and the horns
As the sun begins to fade
I smell the rain of a summer storm
Her eyes are wide and open
Her skin is soft and brown
She's like an orchid in a downpour
Like the zero of sound

In the quiet of the hotel room
Her presence lingers on
I feel the message of her spirit
And my weariness is gone
I know that I can't reach her
Until the morning comes around
And the darkness folds around me
Like the zero of sound
Yeah, the darkness folds around me
Like the zero of sound

Thanks for listening. smile

Stripped down approach worked well, Bob! Makes you pay attention to the lyrics/vocal instead of being distracted by the instruments.
Good song delivered with your signature vocal sound, enjoyed the listen!

Bob,
A fine write that holds the attention; keen observation and yearning balanced in the lines. "Zero of sound" - I like that - it places the song in time ( the 60`s), as does the folk form.
Very good vocal and spare production.
My kind of music!

Robert

Your title is very catchy and it's a nicely-done tune all the way around--I really liked it.

But--my curiosity is getting to me...I still don't know exactly what you mean by the title---does it come from a sound-recording idea (like 'zero' on the dial), or something more scientific or metaphysical? I'd be interested in hearing how you came up with a title so original and attention-grabbing!

Cool song, Bob.

Such a "literary" write. Cinematic. Evocative. Imagery bursting at the seems.

The guitar/bass/vocal treatment works great for this.

Nice.

A good song and an appropriately stripped own arrangement.
I have no idea about the meaning of the title.
With the simple, uncluttered set up your vocal is the ficus and that brings attention to the sibilant sounds. It may be that the reverb is accentuating it but it's there anyway. Reducing it a little will really allow the song to shine.

Tano Music,

Much appreciated.

To me, it means an intense focus / deep in thought where everything else is blocked out...

Thanks again.

Hi Bob,

This backing really suits your style. Your writing is jam-packed with images and it was a pleasure just to sit back, eyes closed and watch the pictures roll through my mind.

Yet another worthy classic Robert Dean song for you fine collection!

All the best,
Noel

Bob, this is so good. Another great write (as I expected). This one kinda has a Paul Simon feel to it, to me. I'm always impressed with the way you put words together.

Great job!

Wow - what a tune! Someone else mentioned it being similar to Paul Simon, and I would absolutely agree. Your wordplay is astounding here. I love the stripped down approach you opted to use here. It really forces you to pay attention to the lyrics, which is probably what you wanted given how poetic they are.

Not a thing I'd change here - great job, and thanks for sharing smile

This song has a very nostalgic feel to it. I like that it's more focused on vocals. Really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing!

Bob, I enjoyed the movie. Rich with imagery and open enough to make it accessible to everyone who is willing to find their own story in the zero of sound. The unplugged folk treatment works well here. Your poetic license is always captivating and easy to listen to, Tom

We'd quote a fav line but that would required quoting the entire song.

The imagery is rich and textured. And your vocal performance and the sparse backing are an excellent way to present it.

Often perfection is achieved when there is nothing left to take away...rather than add.

This is a perfect example of that and we much enjoyed it!

Bob,

I think this might be my favorite of yours. I really love the stripped down approach in this.

If lifts your lyrics and vocals to the top with no distractions.

I could listen to a whole album of this!!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
