I'm not sure about loading and automatically playing a BIAB file.

As a workaround, would you be willing to save the BIAB song as a .WAV file or an MP3 and play that?

I do it by clicking or double clicking directly on the BIAB song file name in the directory. You have to alt+tab back to the directory to get the next one. Unfortunately at times a 2nd instance of BIAB starts up (maybe every 10th time). I just close the first one down.

Thanks Matt, mp3 or wav is not a option for me, I just want saving a click for each song in order to reducing global time when I check multiple songs that I do not know or remember, or my own set of produced songs.

Thanks bowlesj, open songs straight from the directory doesn't work, that is one of the variables I need.

Now I'm wondering if that song auto start feature was ever implemented in previous versions of biab.

I don't recall any changes in BIAB about this.

Two things:

1) In BIAB, go to Options, Preferences and on that screen, under Environment Options, it will say At Program Bootup. You need to make sure you select Open Previous Song there.

2) Windows must have BIAB song types registered. You can do that from BIAB by File, File Utilities, Associate BIAB ...

A few years ago you could double click on a SGU or MGU file and Band-in-a-Box would open and the song would start regenerating and then play.

If memory serves me when BiaB implemented the dual play buttons (play and regenerate and play without generating) automatic start playing was lost.

You could be right, Jim! I didn’t remember such a connection. We would have complained more, I think.

I remember there were some forum comments at the time but confusion existed if the issue was caused by Windows compatibility or permissions, was an unintended by product of the addition of the play-but-not-regenerate button, a by product of other features introduced that year or if it was a feature. Over time the thread dropped down into oblivion.

Do you have (Options, preferences, "Pause Play until Midi or Key Received") checked? I have it checked so it will not automatically play. To get it to play immediately I just have to uncheck it. I am using 2016. 2012 had this feature to. I would think it is still there.

Hi,

If I open a song by double-clicking in Explorer, it does start playing automatically, using the 2018 version.

I have At Program Bootup: "Don't open song or style" selected, by the way.

Thanks

Thanks, Matt, I use it sometimes and is working fine, but don't run auto-play.

I still have BIAB 2012 on my WinXP machine. I just tried it. I double clicked on a BIAB song file in the directory and it started playing as soon as BIAB came up.

John, what program were you in that you double-clicked the file? Windows Explorer?

Yes windows explorer (sometimes called the "windows file explorer" as opposed to "windows internet explorer").

I also call BIAB song files directly from the Micrsoft-Access database program and from a browser page on my computer which is running under the xampp program used for developing web pages before they are shipped up to a web hosting company for internet use.

What about trying to resolve this problem with the old (reset to default factory settings while running as administrator) trick. It seems to work when everything that makes sense fails. Below are the notes I copied from this forum on how to do this.

=========================
To log in as administrator...
1. close BIAB
2. Right-click on the start-up short-cut and select "Run as administrator
Setting "back to factory defaults" is found under the "Options" menu on the top menu bar. There are two options here. Try the "Most settings" one first and then, if that doesn't work, try the "All settings".
Also, prior to resetting, I suggest saving a copy of the current preferences (under "Options") so that they can be reloaded if necessary.
Lastly, before doing any of the above, restart the computer. A full restart will clear all memories of those bits and bytes that sometimes get stuck in memories and stop the computer from operating at its optimum.
