As usual, solid work - strong lyrics, great backing tracks and well mixed. The guitar solo fits in perfectly. The internal rhymes work nicely.

The only two "critical" comments (and they're only minor nits) I can think of -

1. The introduction piano chords sound sort of "buzzy", and not very crisp. I don't know if it came like that, or it's just mixed that way.

2. The lyric of the chorus "There's so much more to life if you just take the time" sort of bugs me. It sort of "breaks the wall", and changing the voice from a sort of internal musing to talking to the listener. It's not bad, and I don't know of a better way to do it.

Someone mentioned that they couldn't tell if the song was regretful or musing. I wonder if the word "if" in that lyric is the cause of some confusion. Perhaps "when" would clarify it?

Anyway, nice and solid, a very pleasant song.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Plus 1 on just about every good comment you've had so far.
I've always been a sucker for songs with minor chords, or Jackson Browne-like arrangements.
This is really good melodically, with lots of well-chosen riffs.

I see the fathers are coming out of the woodwork .
Four of my six children are girls, youngest now 28 - this song really presses my emotion button.
Can't say enough about the song, or the feelings.

It's just long enough so you want to listen again. I loved the guitar lead . . . so much so that 8 bars of it would be nice after "two" to close it out.

But as I said, "two" definitely makes you want to play it again.

As mentioned in the chorus - There's so much more to life if you (I/we) just take (my/our)the time
I wouldn't trade for all the things that (I/we) you can find - just put it in the first person singular or plural and should clear the perspective.

Super song, Super Steve. Thanks for the listen.

Ian

David,

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and offer your feedback. You always take a very thoughtful approach to offering your ideas. Helps me to consider alternatives. The piano part just sounds that way. I get what you are saying about the lyrics in the chorus. On the other hand, though, upon reflection, I sort of like the idea that the song could have more than one meaning. Makes it a little more thought provoking. Jury is still out on that one.

Once again, I really do appreciate your input!

Ian,

Thank you very much for the kind words! Yes, this song does have a pretty strong emotional lean to it. Nothing tugs at my heart strings like my "little girls"!

I toyed with the idea of going back into the chorus after that last word (two). But after some thought, I concluded that the sum of what I wanted to say in the song was wrapped up in that last phrase. I think it might make it more "commercial" to go back to the chorus, or a guitar solo, but I just felt it was right (for me) to end it where I did.

And again, I truly appreciate your thoughts on everything!

I just downloaded the 2011.5 version, and I am really looking forward to doing some more new stuff!!!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Steve

Wow! I love the lyrics and the judicious use of tracks. I write songs and hope to publish one day. Your rendition gave me something to aspire to. My songs use real tracks but I think they need more arranging. Your song was an artful use of software. I was moved by your lyrics and I like your voice. What kind of microphone do you use? Hope to hear from you.

Frank,

Thank you so much for your kind comments! I use an Audio Technica AT3525 mic with a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. The mic is not that expensive, but seems to fit my vocals okay. I have been very pleased with the Focusrite.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen!

Steve,

After hearing 'Lonely Man' I jumped over everyone else to find your next composition... it was worth it too... this is just beautiful. What a great story you've told... it's hard to go from start to finish and then back to start again, but you've done it wonderfully...

It really helps that you sing so well too... there are some nice songs on here but the writers aren't very good singers and it takes away somewhat from their songs... but you are the total package...

Loved this!

Randy

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
