I posted this problem a few months ago and I tried one of the suggestions I got and it seemed to work. It had to do with freezing tracks and regenerating the track. I did that on one of my songs and low and behold all my songs were playing the correct style. Now all of a sudden I am back to square one. Here is my original post.

I am fairly new to band in a box although I have owned for a few years. I am running biab 2015 Ultra Plus Pak directly off my hard drive. When I go to style picker and demo _BBBLZOR.STY Slow Ev8 Blues w Organ (85 RS). It sounds good so I load it and hit the generate and play button. What actually plays is nothing like the demo plus it plays at a much faster tempo than what the song calls for. My understanding is that styles with the underscore in front signify real instruments. What plays is a bunch of midi. When I go to style picker and play the demo it sounds fine. When I click on play to hear what it sounds like with my song it plays a bunch of midi sounds. This happens with any style I pick.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just to make sure that things are not working correctly, please follow the steps below and let us know what happens at each step.

That will, at least let us isolate where the problem is occurring (hopefully).

=====

1. Under "File" select 'New' to create a blank chord sheet. (This is important because it resets settings.)

2. Enter the following chord progression. (This is just a basic progression for testing purposes.)

3. To set the musical boundaries for the chord progression, enter the following...

  • 'Start' = 1 (#1 on image below)
  • 'End' = 8 (#2)
  • 'Choruses' = 1 (#3)
  • Make sure that the percentange (#4) is set to 100%.
  • Don't worry about the tempo (#5) at the moment, we'll set that below using the value given in Stylepicker.

(Note: the image below is taken from the manual so the values for Start and End and Choruses are default values and not what we need at the moment.)

4. Now go into Stylepicker and...

  • select some style that begins with an underscore (#1) -- it doesn't matter what the style is
  • make a note of the tempo (#2)
  • click OK (#3) to return to the chord sheet
  • do not click on the "Load Song Demo" button (#4) -- this button is for loading the chord progression of PG Music's demo into the chord sheet

5. Using the recommended tempo for the style from Stylepicker, set this song's tempo (#5), on the image under point 3, to this value.

6. Click on 'Generate and Play' button.

Did things work properly?

Regards,
Noel

Hi DJC,

How big is the BB folder on your hard drive? I'm wondering if your RealTracks just aren't installed.

Thanks

I copied the entire hd contents on to my hard drive and am running it off my local drive. It was working fine for quite awhile. One day I opened it up and started having this problem. I played around with it but could not get it to work. I tried one of the suggestions I received the last time I posted the problem. At the time I didn't think it worked but when I went back to try and figure it out it was working properly.

I just tried it and it did not work. I picked a style clicked on the green play button at the top to hear the demo and it plays fine.

It looks like I may have solved the problem. Since I am no audio expert I am not sure what causes the problem. I am using a Focusrite Solo for my audio output and I have 2 other music related programs on my laptop. Song Surgeon 5 and Ableton live 9 lite. Whenever I use Ableton and then go back to Song Surgeon it won't play. I have to click on my sound icon in Windows and change the output quality. Say it was set for 2 channel 16 bit 44100hz. If I change it to 2 channel 16 bit 48000hz Song Surgeon works again. Today I stared up Ableton played a song closed it out, opened up Song Surgeon, and as expected it wouldn't play. I closed song surgeon, opened up Band in a box and it worked just fine. I am not sure what causes this issue but I am hoping this will take care of it.

Sounds like you are using ASIO drivers for your audio.

Most ASIO drivers only let a single program play. For example, if Ableton is set to use ASIO then as as long as Ableton is open, it's highly likely that neither BIAB nor Song Surgeon will play if they also use ASIO drivers.

With BIAB, double-check that the audio driver is set to MME. This is may well solve your problem with BIAB.

To do this, have a look under the "Firstly" instructions at the below thread.

I am using an asio driver for both. I closed ableton before I opened song surgeon or biab.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
