Love that LMC. Best mastering program I've used.

I love it too.

Some snotty people rag on it, but it is wonderful.

In side by side tests I cannot tell much of a difference between masters I have spent an entire day on using God knows how many channel strips, and the ones I do with one click using Lurssen.

It really works when you are trying to get that radio sound. Also there is a button you can set where it forces the mix to an iTunes spec that is compliant with "mastered for iTunes" if you are doing commercial work. Very handy. When the robots are reading your stuff, it comes up clean.

The only thing I don't use it on is folk, very light singer-songwriter and classical.

But for pop, EDM, rock, radio stuff, it is the bomb.

How does it compare to Ozone 8’s zillion presets and it’s auto mastering assistant that lets you choose an output based on how it will be played, etc. I like O8 but am always interested in alternatives.

I love it too I put it on my iPad, then take my mixes out to the car connect/Bluetooth through car speakers ,and I can tweek away listening on another source ,to get it right and I find the car stereo sounds to be the best way to get a finished mix

David, what do you use on your folk and singer/songwriter stuff?

But car systems do vary a lot. Dunno. FWIW, I’ve found that if it sounds “right” on my KRK monitors then it’s good on about anything else I listen on.

But then I have aging ears syndrome smile

I had the Lurssen demo for a while and thought it did it a good job and was quick to find something sounding good.

I own the Ozone 8 advanced which has a ton more you can do with the many modules and assistance settings. So this is one I ending up sticking with. The tonal balance plugin is a real saver for me.

I do have a older version of T-RackS that I use some of the compressors like the 670 is very good one.

You can download the demo of the Lurssen Mastering plug and give it shot and compare it yourself.

Yeah, the tonal balance alone is almost worth Ozone’s admission price.

But car systems do vary a lot

That's the point as in the percentage of music listened to the world over per day, Ill bet you it would be in the car.

Where I am, nowadays the car hi fi sounds are the business compared to listening on phones Mp3 players big hi fi systems are fading away rapidly in the home , I still have mine but not many do.

Also the formula now is phones/mp3 players etc direct into car stereos for sounds.

I do get all that. I’m an old fart but we stream everything all the time. It just seems to me like a tune mastered to sound great in my Bose vehicle system with two subs might not be as good in our other vehicle with a more basic system or in a vehicle with a killer custom system. Meaning there’s no compromise as you are mastering tonthe specifics of that one system. My individually powered small monitors are, as I’m sure you know, designed to give a flat response with as little “color” added as possible. After I master a tune with O8 I listen with buds, in our big “living room system,” in both vehicles and with a mono BT earpiece. It seems to work. But as earlier mentioned it could be my old ears.

Bud yea I know what you mean no golden rule.

Though a friend of mines brother is a sound engineer and he was over at mine a long while back.

He told me the flat response monitors are not needed working the way I do i.e. biab.

As the instruments are already recorded and not what you would call raw.

The flat monitors are for when recording the individual tracks to detect distortion, presence, depth, width ,bass tone etc.

So its just finishing mix to hi fi stereo that's needed. Just saying what I've been told.

Interesting. I typically generate guitar BiaB tracks as Direct Input, i.e., raw, and apply my own amp sims, effects, etc. For all tracks I turn off any BiaB reverb or tone. Maybe that why I like the flat monitor aspects. Heck, I don’t know!

Hi Yeah I tried the Lurrsen Mastering Console and enjoyed using it songs came out good to my ears.If you like how the "person" Lurrsen masters then the console is perfect.Comparing it to Ozone,Ozone is a musical education ,you really learn so much by using the programme ,whereas Lurrsen is what it is a song mastered the way Lurrsen masters.Lurrsen Mastering Console in a way is like Ozone Presets. Also like the others have said Tonal Balance is amazing .If I had a some spare cash id like to have Lurrsen Mastering Console but id sell my old car to buy Ozone.h

I’ve been using it here ever for quite some time now, it is great for adding just the right bit of polish.

The “mastered for iTunes” setting is fantastic, not sure why Ozone hasn’t done that, maybe V9.

I’ve used it standalone and got great results, but most of the time I drop it in as the last module in an Ozone 8 session.
Not too many other things happening in Ozone, mostly just the stereo imager. But having it within the Ozone session allows me to use the tonal balance control, and also I can A-B the LMC output with the raw input with the volume remaining constant.

Samuel,

For those soft acoustic genres I use almost nothing but the vintage preset in Ozone. I do it all in the mix, but still very little. Just a little light EQ.

You may want to Google TR5 Master Bundle by IK Multimedia. A different system. Virtual emulations of old school hardware racks. About 40. Kind of like an old school studio. Plus MasterMatch.

Check it out if you want complete control over every note.

If you are using real track acoustics in a sparse setting, you have to spend a lot of time finding the right EQ with module experimentation.

Most of the time I just mic my own acoustic if I am playing sparse. I wanna hear wood.

Thanks David for that information. I don't know if you saw my other forum post but I think I'm going to end up renting to own Ozone 8 through Splice. That should do me for now.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
