Hello,

My name is Dave. I am new to both BIAB and this forum. I have been writing songs and recording for years now, but never have ventured into the BIAB arena. Aside from writing songs, the rest of my spare time is taken up playing guitar in a cover band performing just about every weekend on the west coast of FL, The Klick Band. A great songwriter and member of this forum, Floyd Jane, introduced me to BIAB and I bit. I have been in the weeds for weeks trying to figure it all out, but finally was able to make my first creation. I tried to copy the "Song Memo" to post here identifying the files used, but couldn't copy and paste it. I also can't seem to open up the bt1 file. I assume it also has the BIAB files generated from the song. I am using the 2018 Audiophile version of BIAB for Mac. Suffice it is to say all instruments were generated by BIAB in this song. All the vocal tracks are me, including harmony and background vocals, I am a bit of a fan of 70's smooth soulful jazzy tunes. Wake Up Everybody by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes was on my mind when I wrote this. Anyway, here it goes ... my first BIAB creation ...

I'M NOT GIVIN' UP ON LOVE
By David S. Becker
(c)2018 David S. Becker Music

https://soundcloud.com/gocartmoz/im-not-giving-up-on-love

INTRO
VERSE 1

Everytime I see your face babe
It blows my mind
You drive me crazy
When you say your mine

CHORUS
I'm not givin' up on love
I'm not givin' up on love
You can tell all your friends
Sing to the heavens above
I'm not givin' up on love
I'm not givin' up on love

VERSE 2
I see all those tears at Parkland
And Santa Fe
They can stop a heart from beating
But they can't take love away

CHORUS
SOLO
BRIDGE
You and me babe
We can change the world
And watch the fever grow
I know this cancer's spreading far and wide
Just wait 'til our love takes hold

CHORUS
VERSE 3
You can take a mother from her baby
Because she's not like you
But you can't break those bonds of love
No matter what you do

CHORUS
OUTRO
No I'm not givin' up on love

P.S. By the way, I will be back tomorrow to listen to other original songs posted here and comment for sure. Thanks for allowing me in the band.

Dave

Dave,

Welcome to the Good Forum! smile

This is a heck of an entrance... incredible "first use" of BIAB.

Excellent mix. Everything sits just where it needs to be.

Enjoyed the listen. Looking forward to more...

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Dave,

I agree with floyd, too.

This is a terrific entrance to the forum. You've created and performed a very listenable song and plotted its arrangement and mix really well. I enjoyed it!

All the best,
Noel

Dave,
This has a nice groove and your vocals sound assured ( well it makes sense - you do this for a living!).
The arrangement and mix are good - way above BiaB newbie level.
I liked the reflective ending too.
Welcome; you won`t regret taking up Floyd`s recommendation of the program and this forum.

Hey Robert,

Thx much for your comments. Much appreciated. By the way, I wish I did this for a living. No ... like most musician songwriters, I have a day job that pays the bills. I have my fun writing songs and playing guitar in a rock ‘ n roll cover band most weekends. It is hard to earn a living doing that.

David,
Welcome, though I'm something of a newbie also.
Man, if you were amongst the weeds just prior to putting this together I want a puff.
Seriously, the songwriting is well done with a wonderful narrative subtext as well.
Tidy, and well structured arrangement and the dynamics - particularly the outro - show you know a good song needs a life of its own.
BIAB is a wonderful tool to help a songwriter along the way - as you've demonstrated.
Cool stuff.

Cheers

Dave, you didn't enter with a lot of trepidation.

This really jumps out, right from the first note.

We'll be waiting for more, that's for sure. This 'no small effort' indicates you've really got a great handle on the product.

And you've got a head start, if Floyd's involved.

Excellent!

Welcome to the forums Dave smile This is incredible, especially for a first post! It sounds super professional, and it's perfectly catchy. It got my toe tapping within minutes of play, and I think that hook is going to be in my head all day. Not to mention, I'm a huge sucker for the sax and it was a perfect addition.

Really well done - can't wait to hear more from you! Thanks for sharing smile

Hello Dave,

Welcome to the Forum. It's a great place to hang out. You'll hear some great music from the folks here. You're in the midst of some great musicians/songwriters/composers - and really terrific folks.

This is a super intro song. It has a great late 70s vibe. everything was in its place and well done. Congrats on a great start! I really enjoyed this. Hope you stay around as, based on this really cool song, I sense you'll have some fabulous tunes for us.

Best to you,

Alan

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
