Hello everyone,

I am new to this version of BIAB 2018 (used a way earlier version) and have downloaded and activated BIAB. I have gone back now to D/L the rest of my purchased options and when I go to use the Download Manager it is extremely slow (200-400KB d/l speed, I have high speed fiber optic internet service) and then crashes or hangs up with the usual message of Program not Responding.

Anyone else had this problem, or knows of a way to make the Manager work properly again..??

Thanks in advance,

Don

Don,

Another approach might work for you... (this applies to all versions except the Audiophile versions)

1. Download and install FreeDownload Manager. It's a great program.

https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

I've been using the program for years and it's excellent.

2. Now log-in into your Sales account and all the files for your version of BIAB will be under the "My Products" selection.

Copy the download link and paste it into Freedownload Manager and start it going.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel,

Thanks for the info..!! I downloaded FDM and not sure if I have it correct or not. I was looking for a place to paste a link in order to d/l, but not sure of where I was trying to paste it. What FDM did do was save a web page for me that takes me back to the BIAB website.

I did manage to get re-routed back to the BIAB site and the d/l'ing process being so utterly slow seems like it might be on BIAB's end..

I just talked with BIAB reps on the live chat. They feel that everything is working fine and that because of the size of the download itself it takes just that long to receive it. I am averaging approx. 45 min to 1 hr. for each package. To me seems a bit long because I have a fiber optic connection to the internet...but will see.

As for the BIAB download manager hanging up all the time...he said it might be a disruption in service...but none that I am aware of. I will try some more tweaking and see what results.

Cheers,
Don

Don,

If you go into "My Products" on PG Music Sales Account, right-click on one of the 'download' links (#1 on the image below) and then select "Copy link location" (#2).

A window should then popup which adds the link (#3) to FreeDownload Manager (FDM). Just click ok (#4).

If the process isn't automatic, after copying the link, open FDM and just click on the '+' sign found on the upper left corner of FDM (this adds links manually) -- this is the approach I nearly always use.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Hi Noel,

Thanks for the pictures to help me along here. Yes, it is working now thanks to you.

What download speeds do you normally attain when using FDM..?? I am averaging approx. 400- 800 KB/sec...is that normal..??

Thanks again..!!

Don

Hi Don,

Glad that the pictures helped.

Our Australian internet isn't the fastest. I usually get around 800 - 1000.

That said, it really depends on what other internet traffic is impacting on the download. Unfortunately, that's not something that it's easy to track. For this reason, different times of day will make a difference. If I want to get something quickly, 2 - 4 am is probably the best time.

With FDM it's possible to schedule downloads. This makes it easy to have it running during the early hours of the morning.

I just grin and bear it. It will get there in the end!

Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
