Bob,

Maybe this will help with understanding the bar offset a bit better...

The image below shows the bar offset settings (#1 on image).

The reason that it's usually set to -2 is to allow the 2-bar count-in that BIAB has when SGU/MGU files are loaded. Such a setting permits the song to follow the normal convention of the music starting at bar 1.

From a song layout perspective, if you have 'Bar Offset' set to -2 and then load in a BIAB file you'll see two bars (that is, bars "-1" & "0") before the song starts playing at bar 1. These first two bars are the 'offset' bars.

The settings below Bar Offset (that you had set to 1 and 1), tell the song which RB bar number is the first bar of the song (i.e. 'Start') and which bar number is the last bar of the song (i.e. 'End'). Having both set to 1 is saying "This song is 1 bar long".

Because you had the Bar Offset set to 0, this meant that if your song had a 2-bar count-in, it wouldn't start until bar 3 (hence Kent's comment about setting 'Start' to 3).

The settings on the image below say the following....

1) Bar Offset = -2 (this means a 2-bar lead-in before the song starts)

2) Start = 1 (this means the song will start at what RB has defined as bar 1 on the bar counter)

3) End = 32 (this means the song finishes at RB's bar #32)

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Noel

Same for me; i rarely work and worked with Realband (v5 BTW) because of these erroneous behaviors .... just found out that soloing a real track over a selected few bars won't work with RT 2691 over the selected area, on a fresh track here see below. All you get, if it works at all, is just a bar at the beginning ....

Besides, generating RealTrack solos in BIAB is also a problem, especially when there are beat-count measure changes in a song arrangement as in this one .... sort of get fed up with this; just got my real REAL strat-guitar out of the closet to do the job for now.

PS i an running the whole darn windows 1803 being administrator, and even when i select run as administrator is behaves the same ... And solo-generating the whole track just gives you only some dispensed useless solo pieces over only a few bars .. see picture 3. F

Hi Fiddler,

This appears to be a different issue.

Can you please send the song file to support@pgmusic.com, and let us know in the email which measures you're referring to?

Thanks
Kent

Hi Kent, I'll have to fiddle with it or make a special version then; it's a piece in the process of writing and not registered yet LoL. F

Just to clarify my original problem some BIAB tracks worked fine but on some the start/end bars and offset seemed to have been set wrongly (not by me!) and having just upgraded from 2008 BIAB to 2018 and using RB for the first time there were settings I was unfamiliar with

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
