When I use the Export Song as Audio File from the Menu/Audio/Export Song as Audio File... the render fails every time.
When using the other options example the WAV tool bar icon/Export Song as Audio File... the render completes with no problem.
Is this a possible bug or my system.

I'm exporting WAV, MP3, WMA and using BIAB 2018 (520)
Settings for export are as Noel shows still no luck exporting WAV, MP3 or WMA. Reverted back to build (519) no difference.
Other than uninstalling/reinstalling BIAB any other possible reason this may be happening.

This is most strange in that it works when you save using the alternative options (e.g. the WAV tool bar option) but not the Audio menu options.
Just to doublecheck...
Prior to following the below instructions, save your present options using Menu\Options\Save_Preferences. This makes it easy to return to your current set up if needed.
Now, please navigate to the link below and set up the audio and midi exactly as shown. This is the most fundamental setup up for BIAB and it works in 99% of situations.
Well after a bit of "try this try that" I have now got the export audio running.
It seems that the Use VSTi/DXi Synth option has to be ticked and a VSTi/DXi synth added to the default slot. Even if no midi tracks, just RealTracks are being used in your song it will fail render if not ticked.
I usually use my own hardware synth for midi sounds so generally don't have it ticked.

That’s good info, thanks. I also use an external MIDI synth. I normally do use the MIDI tracks with RealTracks so I haven’t even tried to use BIAB to render. It’s good to know it can work with just RealTracks if you want to do it.
Brian, you might consider making a post in Tips or Tricks. “Want to render RealTracks when you use an external MIDI synth?”

I think you will find that has always been the case that you cant direct render unless you use vst/dxi synth . As the midi in your case, is being sent out to your midi device and then on to your speakers /sound system. But does not get routed back to the software audio if you see what I mean. It would make sense if there was any midi tracks involved of course. I am sure someone can explain it better than me. Just my take. Mike

Hi Brian,
It's good that my "reset audio/midi solution" led you to the solution. I found myself wondering if the problem might have been due an inactive VSTi/DXi.
As mentioned above, it's one of BIAB's quirks that VSTi/DXi needs to be set up to get audio rendering happening.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
