Last Sunday afternoon I watched a documentary, Tennessee Whiskey: The Dean Dillion story. He wrote many songs , most of George Straits hits.
Monday morning I got up and began writing for the first time this year, not in his style but in his inspiration. He said that he couldn’t imagine doing anything else. That’s how I used to feel.
I’d forgotten how fun songwriting can be.

A single point of light
In a storm raging night
You’re the voice I’ve always heard

The better part of me
When I can’t always see
What’s good in this world

I’m not an easy one I know
Sometimes I steer
Where no one wants to go
But you calm my troubled seas
Somehow find what’s best in me

You are a lighthouse
A beacon from the top of the world
Shining brightly
Smiling sweetly
For me girl

And if I am a fool
Who has too much to say
You listen anyway

The better part of me
Deserving so much more
Than I’ll ever be

You are a lighthouse
A beacon from the top of the world
Shining brightly
Smiling sweetly
For me girl

You are a lighthouse
A beacon from the top of the world

Hi Kenny,

More great music from you. Besides your immediately recognizable voice, several things caught my attention.

The number one thing is how you sang the first pre-chorus and then used it as your instrumental riff the second time. Cool!

Second, there are so many dynamics on the lyrical journey. The sung (first) pre-chorus is the main attraction for me on that path:

I’m not an easy one I know
Sometimes I steer
Where no one wants to go
But you calm my troubled seas
Somehow find what’s best in me

Third, the guitar lead was nasty sweet - so cool and cutting it has frost hanging from the percolating notes.

Best to you.

Alan

Nice to see you posting music here again, Kenny!
Good song, I like the chorus especially. Very effective the way you dropped everything out except the acoustic and steel for the last one too.
Nice solo too!

Beautiful!!! Glad to see you're writing again Kenny. Your hiatus has NOT left you rusty. I can't imagine you doing anything else. So glad to have you back my friend! Everything about this is wonderful. I love deep, thoughtful, heartfelt songs, and outside this forum, it seems they are hard to find. Never stop writing!!! Take care. Greg

Nice song, but your singing is what really sold it for me. Loved the ending.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Top arrangement and song.
The melody is on point.
The vocals seem to be a little distorted, (very bright on the top with frequent clipping), actually, the solo too now I listen again. It may be Soundcloud's compression on perhaps something in the "mastering".
I'll listen again later with different headphones, (I've checked levels on soundcloud& my computer).

Cheers

Kenny,

This one goes for the heart with that powerful image in the lyrics and your excellent vocals... somehow your rough edges just make the delivery warmer.
Cool simple backtrack and the ending is nicely done too.
That inspiration you had is a sign- you`re tapping into the right stuff again!

That one will rip the paint right off of your heart.

As Greg said "I love deep, thoughtful, heartfelt songs, and outside this forum, it seems they are hard to find. Never stop writing!!! "

We are glad you watched the Dean Dillon doc...we did also but, alas, no song came out of it smile

That wonderful lyric is well supported by the backing tracks and is sung with heart and soul. You have a wonderful gift in being able to express so much emotion in lyrics w/o over intellectualizing or drowning the song in angst.

Superb!

Kenny,

An excellent write. As Greg said "thoughtful, heartfelt". What a song should be.

Your songs (melody) always "sing well". A real talent.

The production on this is a delight. Super choice for the ending...

Top-shelf (again...)

Combination of the beautiful lyrics, your heartfelt voice and the arrangement, especially the picking acoustic, make this really nice listen. The fun of songwriting is really shining brightly here.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
