(1) a link to your song: (I GET) NO SYMPATHY
(2) the name of the style you used: SYMPATHY.STY
(3) the category: MIDI

A mellow pop ballad, reminiscent of the early 90's era, with a touch of Americana/Country.

Ok, so I guess I had said something about I would venture into the other music categories for my remaining submissions, but this "All-Midi" section just keeps tugging at me & pulling me back in! So here comes another one of those smile
Maybe it's the feeling of novelty like I mentioned before, but I actually am starting to suspect it's the opposite, nostalgia. See, the "all-midi" era of the late 80's through mid 90's is precisely where it all started for me as a musician, it's where I "come from" in that sense. And when I came across this particular style here, which really embodies the ballads of that era, I knew right away that I just had to do something with it cool

Anyway, enuff chatter, here come the formalities:

Style is SYMPATHY.STY

Style MIDI Instruments are : Fender Bass (34), Bright Piano (2), Nylon String Guitar (25)*, Pad Sweep (96),
MIDI SuperTracks in style: 2104:Piano, Rhythm PopShiningHeld Ev 120
MIDI SuperTracks in style: 1806:Synth Pad, PopModernGrooveMellow Ev16 075
Soloist RT in song: 1513:Guitar, Electric, Soloist CountryBrent Ev 065
MIDI Drums: Standard Kit**

*Uses Steel Guitar VSTi rather than Nylon String
**Outputted via EZ Drummer VSTi

There are (obviously) other plugins used in abundance here (no Coyote Wavetable or QuickTime was ever going to cut it), but this time around I tried to make my choices accurately reflect the intended patches of the original style, with the exception of the steel strings guitar that I just felt would accentuate that Americana angle better.
Any other details you're curious about, just fire away.

This is really good. I really liked the chord progression and the lead is fantastic.

This is really good.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

That's some mighty big compliments. thank you! Coming from our 'Mr. Midi-Man', that really means a lot blush

Ok, so I know I've said pretty much the same thing to you before, but some things are obviously worth saying twice - I mean, you yourself just did that right there with that "really good" line! grin

Slightly confused now. You mean the soloist part?

Eddie,

Nice song. I'm on my third listen and enjoying the tune. It reminds me of instrumentals popular in the sixties and seventies.

I see you used the output of EZ Drummer 2 for the drum sound module. What sound module(s) did you use for the rest of the instruments? They sound nice.

I have three multi-timbrel sound modules. My desktop computer has a Creative Audigy 2 sound card with the onboard Creative sound module and the Cakewalk TTS-1 multi-timbrel sound module. I typically do not use the GS wavetable sound module embedded in Windows.

Good luck on the competition.

Man, that's dedication right there, I must say. By the time I'm on my third listen, on any of my tunes (particularly during the finalising stages), I'm usually sick of them already! grin

More or less I used the same sets of sound plugins as in my first song, the KeyZone (with a Steinway preset) and DSK guitar (with a Steel String preset). The pad filler I just left to my "Default Synth" output...and that's pretty much it, I think I'll keep the rest of it to myself if that's ok with you wink

Nor do I use the Built-in module on my Mac either, if I can avoid it. I've never had any experience with Cakewalk, but your list looks quite impressive. I wouldn't mind hearing something you've made with these things cool

Thanks for the support as always!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
