Title: Hope Flies Away

I wrote "Hope Flies Away" on a 12-string Epiphone about 25 years ago and finally recorded it three months ago. There's not much of a story behind the song: It's just the angst, conflict, and desire of young love.

I used Real Band to generate all the tracks:
RT1680 Guitar, 12-String Acoustic, Fingerpicking
RT522 Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking
RT539 Bass, Electric, Pop
BB RealDrums-NashPopBallad

Mixing was done on Mixcraft
Effects: Vocal - Acoutica Pro Studio Reverb, LaPetite Exciter
Mastering: Broadcast Multiband Compressor, Ferox Tape Emulator, iZotope Mastering Essentials, Classic Master Limiter

Lyrics

A smile that haunts me,
Eyes that want me
Hiding behind your curtain.
Enchanting Lady,
Inamorata savior,
Heal this silent hurting.

Every morning before I wake
I pray for you my heart to take.
Where were you when I reached for you?
Where are you now that I adore you?

Do you still see me
When you close your eyes at night?
Do you still touch me
In your dreams?

A prisoner of my own desires,
You set the walls of this cage on fire.
Passion burns in every room
You are salvation and my doom

Do you still see me
When you close your eyes at night?
Do you still touch me
In your dreams?

Will I ever see you in the morning my friend?
I thought that this would never end
Hope flies away from me like an olive-branched dove
When will you give me your love
‘Cause I’m waiting for you to take me away
Oh God, I just can’t take another day
Waiting for you to take me away

What a great production. This shouts 'quality' throughout the entire production. Impressive lyrics, accompanied by a generous mix of musical perfection.

What also stood out was the brilliant phonetics.

This is air-worthy.

Welcome to the forum community Ezekiel’s Storm! This was very very good!! This song put me very much in mind of something Gordon Lightfoot would have done! Your vocal is super on this and I think my favorite line in the song was the salvation and doom contrast. Thoroughly enjoyed it ! Thanks, Torrey

Yeah! Great track, loved the lyrics and vocals too. I also got the Boston vibe from this which is ok in my book.
Can’t comment too much on the mix other than to say it sounds great on my iPad (I’m on the road at the moment)
Enjoyed!

Good song and very strong vocals. Its cool that you get to record this so long after writing- it sounds to me like you`ve done that younger writer proud!
Well done and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forums.

This is one hell of a first post. Your vocal is outstanding. Your backing tracks and chord progression is also top notch.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

So great having you on the forum and sharing your great music. Welcome!

Very nice, indeed! I agree with the Gordon lightfoot analogy - could have been a Top 10 song from the mid 70s. Everything shines on this. Excellent!

Solid production, nicely sung, excellent rhymes! I also hear a bit of Boston, and a lot of early '70s.

Well done, I enjoyed it a lot! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
