Excellent lyrics - this sounds a lot like a classic Judy Collins song.

I'm always a bit hesitant to when checking out your songs - they don't have the immediate melodic appeal that my lazy ears want, but they're always well produced and lyrically interesting.

I really like the framing of the song - the boy/girl/poet gives a nice progression, and the bird metaphor ties it together well. I understand your frustration at setting someone else's words, but I think you did a really nice job here.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Nice collab y'all!

J&B,
Maybe `cos I`m a Brit. her work was completely absent from my Eng.Lit. schooling ( but then I did get to read Milton`s Paradise Lost over and over!)... so nice to have the time now to catch up.
I`ll look for the book you mention.
I`m happy an Emily fan found something true about this song!

Thank you -that`s appreciated.
The chords were a bit of a departure for me - I looked into some of Joni Mitchel`s songs when she started moving away from pure folk for inspiration.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment- my earlier songs tended to be much more straightforward musically...I blame all the cool music this forum has turned me on to for moving towards the unusual!
Its always supportive when someone pays attention to lyrics- I`m glad you felt they connected well.
Just to be clear - I read the E.D. letters, but didn`t quote them- the words are my interpretation.

Robert,

I enjoyed the journey you just took me on.

Maybe it's because I'm in Australia, but I cannot recall ever having read any of Emily Dickinson's works. I'd better get out on the 'net and hunt a few of them down. She has certainly inspired some profound lyrics from you!

Joanne's excellent vocals suit the ambience of your words and arrangement beautifully.

You've both done a great job!

All the best,
Noel

Noel,

I appreciate your listen and comments.
Well worth checking out Emily Dickinson`s work... all the more moving if you understand the time and circumstances she was writing in.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
