It would be nice to add 2 more tracks to BIAB. One: for fills, breaks, single shots, etc. From other real drum tracks, other than from real tracks selected. Two: for accent instruments and SFX...Wind blow, bird chirping or hamster chewing on #2 pencil... that is used once or twice in the composition. or just use these 2 as your regular mixer tracks. P.S. Yes, I am aware of Realband, but I am talking about BIAB

At the time BIAB was designed, 16 tracks must have been the limit. Possibly an 8-bit thing.
Although it is not well known, all 16 are actually in use if you have a melody, a soloist, and harmony with guitar strings on different channels.
There are MANY requests on this forum to open up more tracks, and yes, not by going to RealBand. Those requests are for many things: more MIDI tracks, more audio tracks, more RealTracks, more RealDrums, etc.
When you mention two for the mixer, I'm wondering if you are referring to the concept of a bus, as found on a DAW. For example, it would be nice if you could route all the rhythm tracks to one bus and apply a certain effect.
So, +1 but see all those other posts for other justifications.

For years I have been requesting that PGMusic open up all 16 tracks so we could add more MIDI, RT and RD parts so for me this suggestion in a big +1.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

I get the 16 tracks: that's the MIDI channels limitation. I also know that they don't max out the MIDI tracks so as to accommodate features such as "each guitar string gets its own channel (11-16 - not really sure how many use this feature, though) and also for MIDI harmonies. What I don't understand is why the audio tracks (RealTracks and RealDrums) need to be overlaid on the MIDI tracks, rather than just having their own separate set of tracks.
There should be no reason we couldn't have 16 MIDI tracks (channels) available, perhaps even with assignable channels (although that might require a rewrite of MIDI styles processing), and some number of separate RT/RD tracks. RealBand can do it, so the engine to generate them is already there.

Pipeline, interesting workaround, but I would prefer to have more tracks natively Maybe it is just me, but I can not find the reason for PG to have and maintain 2 separate programs BIAB & Realband that are so in a way very similar. I think it would be wise to merge these two programs together which would address many issues from "wishlist" (including this) and many many others. Also should be easier to maintain single code. Sorry to attack this thread vigorously with items that were discussed before, it is just I feel that either BIAB will reinvent itself or wind down in the next few years. I am voting for the first choice and hoping that if they rewrite things for 64Bit environment and get their hands dirty, at least they will consider and implement some key core features that people have asked for "MANY" times before.

I agree, John. The 16 is a MIDI standard, but that’s one bank. There could be two banks. Even my ancient music notation software has two banks. And you are correct that there shouldn’t be a relationship between the 16 track MIDI limit and anything audio.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
