So Long, December

Wrapping up this one that has been unfinished for a while..song lamenting a not-so-good year, and hoping that the next one's much better!
=====================
So long, December, this boy's breakin' free.
Your song, December, has faded for me.

Nice try, December, no holding my sleeve.
That's why, December, can't wait till you leave.

Too much cryin', gloomifyin',
Like a misery stew;
Now's the year in review;
It's nothin' I'm gonna glue to..

This year's December, good riddance, adiuex;
Next year's December--I'm countin' on you.

"Too much cryin', gloomifyin'..." What a sweet little line in a stew of great lines.

Loved this all the way through. That's reaching way back into the "inspirations". Much enjoyed.

Nice and classical sounding combination of folk and jazz.
Vocals might have been a little bit more "hot" in the mix.
All in all well done!

Thanks Tangmo and RnAM..I do agree with the mix comment...vocal gets lost a bit at times...something to fix and improve, thanks.

Thanks Ember...totally fiction! It was a great year!
But that phrase "so long, december" just popped in alongside the melody.

Tidy piece indeed.
You do need to automate the vocal levels somewhat though as the pop & drop on occasion.

A solid write. The Dixieland band works well to present it.

"Too much cryin', gloomifyin',
Like a misery stew;"

Nice line!

A small bump in the vocal level would be all that's needed.

Glad to hear that! smile

Cool write (great title), vocal and band. Glad you chose the tuba...as a former upright bass player (Bud) they always get my attention.

We always love a lyric that "works" with few words and this one fits the bill.

The mix sounds excellent on the monitors.

Enjoyed it!

Really nice work on this one smile I'm almost getting a Beatles-esque vibe at moments here. Love the groove, and combination of pop, folk, and jazz. It is certainly unique, and those lyrics are really good too. Relatable for sure, and some stand out lines in there.

Thanks for sharing!

Jannesan, J&B, Ezekiel's Storm, Scott, Deryk..thanks for listening!

This is tailored after traditional New Orleans jazz bands, like the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and classic songs like St. James Infirmary, When the Saints, etc.

BIAB's style "band" was right on, and the mix of banjo, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, tuba was perfect!!

Hello, Tom

Very nice dixieland style song!
It reminds me of The Village Stompers' "Washington Square" a little bit.
The melody is very straightforward, it fits the back performance very much.
However, I thought it might not be necessary to mix a sustained sound of the low pad tone that sounded small behind.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.
