Hi, I must be missing something with the video tutorials on this feature. I am trying to drag and drop a BiaB song into Reaper. I have engaged the DAW mode but nothing wants to move. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

1. Reduce the size of both BIAB and the DAW so that both fit on the screen.
(To do this with BIAB, drag the left edge in.)
2. On the track name at the very top of the screen, left click and drag the track across to the DAW. Release the mouse button.
(The mouse cursor will appear as a round circle with a slash in it until you reach the DAW. Also, it's not possible to drag the tracks from the mixer.)
If you want to drag all tracks across to your DAW, click and drag the "Master" track.
Thanks Noel, I am using Reaper (just purchased this week), and never used a DAW before. When I try and drag an instrument directly into Reaper, the error message is "could not create wave file". I tried the same process into Sonar (free version) with the same message. I did find a setting in the DAW option in BiaB and changed the export from WAV to MP3 but got the same message. ??

The "I could not create wav file" error suggests that you have not got the "Use VSTi/DXi synth" option active under MIDI Driver options. (#2 on the image below)
One of the quirks of BIAB is that the VSTi/DXI setting must be active to create WAV files.
Also, I know that Coyote Forte has been giving you issues. If that's still the case, for the drag 'n' drop process, simply select Coyote WT as the VSTi (#3).

1. I notice that for the VSTi/DXi in the MIDI Drivers, you have Coyote Forte selected. Click on this and change it to Coyote WT (it might make a difference given the problems you've had with Coyote Forte).
2. Are you running BIAB in "Run as administrator" mode? To do this, exist BIAB, right-click on the shortcut and, from the menu that appears, select "Run as administrator" to start the program.
To set this option permanently...
1. Right-click on BIAB's shortcut
2. Select "Properties"
3. Under the "Compatibility" tab, select "Run as administrator".
Thanks for persisting. Yes I do run as Administrator and have saved that option via properties. Another video and not sure why the message came up re loading something for Coyote but I pressed yes and nothing seemed to happen. Same message for Coyote Forte. I'm not sure whether I have ever used midi in BiaB and certainly not through that box that pops up presumably to select an instrument. I honestly know nothing about that area. Not having a lot of luck but thanks.

Before that.... I don’t need Jbridge for this to happen? Reaper is the 64bit version ?..

I notice this time that you have changed your audio driver to WAS. I suspect that the WAS audio driver is not friendly with drag and drop because it only lets one application produce sound at a time.
Set BIAB as MME and Reaper as ASIO. That has always been a wining combination for me.
I'm not sure, I use Reaper 64 bit and the drag and drop works fine. I do have J-Bridge installed too. This runs in the background when needed.
I've just tried a drag 'n' drop, it worked fine. I have Task Manager open and could not see J-Bridge kick in at all.
I don't think I've mentioned this before, but the WAS driver that BIAB installs as the default, has created numerous issues for people. Like Dan, above, I run BIAB with MME. That's a very stable driver.
Hi again, been out all day but have now reset to factory settings and to no avail. Have set the midi settings to your instructions Noel, will post a video tomorrow to check. Think I should contact PG and ask them to view the post. No response when I try and drag and drop. Only one last thought....did I have to download or use any of these VSTi's or DXI's because I haven't been into that area of the program. Maybe I'll stick to Real tracks unfortunately.

No, there's no need to download DXi or VSTi plugins. Coyote WT comes with BIAB.
As I mentioned in a post earlier in the thread, to create wav files, it's necessary that a VSTi/DXi is selected. This is true whether Realtracks or MIDI is used for the tracks.
Coyote WT is simply the easiest VSTi to select and the one least likely to cause problems (while we're problem solving).
Out of curiosity...
When you right-click on a track that contains a Realtrack and then select "Track Actions | Save track as wav file", can you create a Realtrack wav?
Regards, Noel
P.S. If you contact PG Music, do make sure to include the URL of this thread. There's a lot of useful information here and your videos are excellent.
Back into it........... Think these settings are ok. I have tried the DAW option settings at factory settings and nothing changed in the old interface. I can save tracks as a WAV file as shown. I do get 2 files saved here, not sure what the other one is, but I can drag the WAV file into reaper and play them so I guess if all else fails this won't take much more time than dragging directly into a DAW.

The fact that you can save a wav file using the "Track Actions" method indicates that everything in BIAB is running as it should and is working properly.
That the drag and drop to Reaper doesn't work suggests that the problem might well be because your version of Reaper is 64 bit.
You mentioned this some time back and I wasn't sure if it would impact. Because I have j-bridge which runs automatically when needed, it might have kicked in even though I didn't see any evidence that it had.
Hopefully Kent at PG Music will read this thread and pass on some thoughts. He's got lots of experience and knows much more than I do.
Thanks Noel, have asked PG to look at the forum so will wait til tomorrow and perhaps in the meantime Inshoukd just buy Jbridge and see. I would have thought however, according to the tutorial video, I should be able to drag and drop into a file, not necessarily a DAW.

Looking back over you earlier video clips (which I've found really useful), I might be wrong but it looks like you've selected "DAW Mode" before you drag to Reaper.
I have never used this mode and, as I mentioned early on, it's not necessary.
With this in mind...
1. do not enter DAW mode
2. see if it's possible to drag and drop without this
Regards, Noel
P.S. All you drag and drop settings seem good to go.
It's perfectly normal for the mouse pointer to turn into the circle with the line across it, until you've dragged to an area that you can drop a WAV file into. Next, please try this:
Drag one of the track names directly to your desktop, instead of to Reaper. Does that work?
If it does, try dragging a track name to the "WAV" section of the Drop station near the top-left corner of Band-in-a-Box (just under Master). If it turns green after a minute or so, drag that green WAV box to Reaper or to your desktop. Let's see if that works.
These tests will give us an idea of where the problem is coming from.
Like Noel mentioned, it's not really important to be in DAW Plugin Mode, though it shouldn't cause any problems either. All DAW Plugin Mode does is make the BIAB window smaller and force it to stay on top. Drag and Drop works fine without it.
Also, that Synthesizer/Sound Card setting in MIDI/Audio Driver Setup is only for choosing drum mappings, so isn't really relevant if you use RealDrums, and since the Coyote WT and Forte are both General MIDI-compatible, you can just leave it set to General MIDI Misc.
Thanks Kent for getting involved. As you can see from this video I can't drag onto the desktop nor can I drag to the WAV section on the left hand side. You will see the error messages appear. I can however right click on any instrument including master and render a WAV file to the desktop.

"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
