Mr. Jay

****** Song Summary *************
Title: Mister Jay

Soloist is saved with the song : BlueGrass Swing Fiddle (210)
Style is C_TEX_SW.STY (Country Texas Swing)
Style MIDI Instruments are : Acoustic String Bass (33), Electric Piano (5), Jazz Electric Guitar (27),
MIDI Drums :1 Standard Drum Kit (1)

It's likely that I picked up some other sounds from other midi styles, but I don't remember.

I sang and knocked.

This song was born from a fun conversation with the real "Mr. Jay". a bail-bondsman in Houston. He not only inspired the song with his stories, but helped to "Houstonify" it.

I like this song for the fun. I'm not happy with the mix--especially the bass panned left, the mono drums, the guitar sound, and the over-done piano licks Other than that? Hazards.

I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay
I am quite surprised to see you, I must say
Please don't haul me off to Jail
I'll be back to check my mail
I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay.

Ain't this Memphis springtime something else to feel?
I've been busking for a bus ticket down on Beale
See that lady there that let you through the door.
Ain't none like her back in Houston anymore.

I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay
And I'm quite surprised to see you I must say
Please don't haul me off to jail
I'll be back to check my mail
I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay.

I'll head back to Cunny Homes in old 3rd ward
Baby's mama prolly thinks there's some reward
Got to get back to my biz on Scott and Clay
Give me one more week, I'll be back Mr. Jay

Instrumental

Ain't this LA breeze a bucketful of bliss?
Ain't no courtroom back in Houston quite like this
You look like you've been working pretty hard
Stick around, I'll show you Sunset Boulevard.

I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay
I am quite surprised to see you, I must say
Please don't haul me off to Jail
I'll be back to check my mail
I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay.

Ain't this New York City something, Lord I swear
Since you made it here, you'll make it anywhere
It's up to you if you think it's time to go.
Got no money and I'm scared of Mexico

I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay
And I'm not surprised to see you I must say
I'll crawl off of this here stoop
get back inside the loop
I am not jumping bail Mr. Jay

I am not jumping bail
I'm not jumping bail
I am not jumping bail, Mr. Jay

Fun song! Wish I had a small fraction of your abilities as a lyricist.

Do you not have song file for this anymore? It wouldn't take much to kick this up a few notches with realtracks, realdrums, and a better mix.

Jay is still around BTW, retired a few years ago.

The double tracked or otehr wise treated vocal sections work REALLY well.
I agree it's great fun and would benefit from some Realtracks/drums to help with the stereo image.
An excellent demo.

Cheers

Tangmo,

Yes, a fun song. A really nice vocal.

I thought it was quite impressive work for mostly MIDI.
(though I've never been a big fan of MIDI productions)

I enjoyed the listen.

Fun, smart lyrics and good vocals... I vote with other posters that this deserves a newer rockin RealTrack version.

Cool stuff.
Would shine if drums/bass were of RT or better midi sounds. I actually like the "beat up" saloon type piano on this track. Vocals are great.

Dave, that's good to hear. I had kinda hoped Jay would take this song to his band and that they could add it to their set with their own arrangement, but didn't happen.

I'm working on a new version/arrangement now with RT's and RD's, and a bigger production but I put this together in two sections, it appears, and I'm not sure if it will work. Back still hurts, so I can't sit and work for long periods. We'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the comments. As long as I made Jay laugh, I succeeded with my initial goals.

Hi Tangmo,

I enjoyed this!

It's definitely an entertaining and fun musical journey your created. I get the impression that you've taken a bit of time writing this and putting it together because everything is sitting so well in my headphones!

My favourite line was "Ain't this LA breeze a bucketful of bliss"... it's such a highly visual image and made me smile.

All the best,
Noel

Man, that write is jam packed with great lines and imagery. There's enough in it for several writes!

And the vocal just nails the delivery.

Like Dave and others alluded to it's well worth a new mix with RT's and RD's.

We look forward to what you cook up with it.

Great listen!

Tangmo,

Well, that was a fun listen—a foot-tapper, head-bobber! Great lyrics, and superb production—really, really catchy. Like how that piano rings. I’m not expert enough to discern MIDI from RT, but it just doesn't matter on a song like this, IMHO. Great tune! Congrats on a job well done.

My kindest regards,

Deej

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
