I have really strange problem (with BIAB, not personal) with loading a song that I arranged with BIAB 2017 Everything Pak. Having partly composed the song I saved it for later amendment. However, trying to reload the song failed. What happens is the song appears to load and goes through the loading of instruments etc. and then starts to play. But only the drums play, the bar cursor doesn't move and the program shows "Program Not responding". Also, my mouse is not responding and I cannot open Task Manager and 9/0 times I have to restart my PC. All this only happens with this one song. I can get around it by loading a previous SGU and then open the file in question and everything works OK but not if I try to open the file in the first instance. I have tried to open the file following amendments and re-saving as a different file name, but still no joy and it still locks up. I have also initialised BIAB to default settings, tried MME & ASIO The style I am using is _TBSLZ8R.STY Texas Blues Straight.
This is a pretty unique situation. From what you a describing, you are correct, it seems that there is something in this song file that is not being agreeable.

You could also upload your song file to a service such as the free Dropbox, put it in a public folder, copy the link to it, and post that link here. We can then try the song.
BIAB 2024 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 6.5 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6; Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus Studio 192, Presonus Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors
I'm having a similar problem with three midi files. These are homemade with a Yamaha PSR-910 where my keyboardist friend played the songs normally by selecting a Yamaha style on the 910, setting the tempo and played the song. Saved it as a midi file. BIAB loads, decodes the chords but when I hit play, the count off begins and the screen grays out prior to the first note playing. Loads and decodes the chords in RB as well but locks up prior to the first note in RB also.
The songs play in Win Media Player.
Next step was to load the song back in BIAB and I muted all the tracks. The song played without freezing but no sound of course. I began to unmute on a per channel basis and Channel 2 was the culprit. I examined the midi events and there are a lot of control commands on that channel at the beginning but they are meaningless to me.
What is odd to me is that I use to own this very Keyboard and I've saved many many midi song files on it with never any corruption errors.
I'll put some files in dropbox and post a link and anyone is welcome to give a look and tryout. Thanks.
EDIT: Here's the Dropbox Link with the midi file, MGX and Seq projects. As I stated, the files load but go to NOT RESPONDING status before any note plays out.
Hi Charlie I have just loaded your midi ITS.MID to the melody track in BIAB and it plays fine. And generates a chord sheet tempo is 169bpm When I look at track 2 ch 2 in Sona The 2 cnt events at the start of the are RPN pitch bend Sensitivity and cnt 5 portamento time. As this is a tenor sax track I would say that they are required for the correct sound Mike
Thanks Mike. It must be something common to my setups in BB and RB. Fortunately, this time it was not necessary to have a midi file of the recording because I was recording the audio performance for my friend. I recently purchased Sampletank Max and wanted to play around a bit. I am able to extract individual channels so I will have some advantage. Thanks again for checking out the files. I'll leave the link up for a while in case others want to check them.
I just tried both versions of Tunica Motel and they loaded and played fine for me.
Just to check, do you have the latest update for BIAB installed (build 520)?
Also, have you tried "Returning to factory settings" -- found under the Options menu? I've often found that when BIAB stops doing something that it used to do, returning to factory settings often helps.
Lastly, I saved Tunic Motel as Tunica Motel 3. It's available at the link below. Does this one load and play for you?
Hi Noel, You refer to Build 520, but that's for BIAB 2018, I am running 2017 Build 471 Yes I have done a factory reset I tried your file from Dropbox and the file wouldn't even play the drums as before. The program just locked up completely (program not responding)
As before, I loaded a previously made .SGU and then loaded the other 2 files and your from Dropbox and they played perfectly.
So the only way I can get them to play is if I load a previous file first and play part of it. Thanks for trying it out anyway.
Also just chose any style without inputting any chords and pressed Play, let it do the count in and stop, then load my suspect files and they play as they should
If you open the file by double-clicking on it, have you tried using the "File | Open" method and then navigating to the song's folder from within BIAB?
As you said before, this is a weird problem.
Something that I'd try is after you have the song generated and playing (when it's the second instance that you mention), try freezing all the tracks and saving. This may allow you to re-open the song without issue.
I haven't heard from PG Music so I guess I might have to live with it or do a re-install. If I do a re-install, will I have to go through the trauma of re-installing all of my Realtracks again? That would be a nightmare !!!
WAS is a Windows Audio Session driver and was introduced with BIAB 2018. Since you have BIAB 2017, it won't be there.
For what it's worth...
I'm not sure that a re-install will solve the problem seeing that all other files play correctly. It seems more likely that these couple of non-playing files are corrupt in some way.
As a last-ditch attempt... go to the link below and set the Audio and MIDI as shown by the numbers on the images. This set-up is the most basic and sturdy when it comes to problem solving.
Before changing the settings, though, under the "Options" menu there is a choice to save preferences. I suggest you do this just in case you need to re-load the original settings that you had.
Lastly, if you have any musical USB devices plugged in, unplug these and re-connect. USB connections sometimes cause issues and need to be reset.

P.S. I just noticed that you had a bar-based letter on you lead sheet (bar 69). I wondered if this might be the stumbling block. In the below SGU file, I've removed that letter. Does this 4th version of the file work?
We did not have any oddities with your files on our end, as previously mentioned I hoped that factory settings would have absolved the issue.
By default, there will be the option to select an ASIO driver. Do you have an Audio Interface with it's own ASIO drivers, or do you use a generic ASIO driver like ASIO4All?
It may not do much, but you can always try a different Driver. As Noel pointed out, WAS was not available in 2017, so an ASIO driver may be the best way to try if you have one setup.
Interesting that others also can play these files, so I doubt it is the song itself.
At this point, I would vouch for a reinstall as well. You do not need to reinstall your RealTracks or RealDrums. You can back these files up outside the bb folder, and once you have deleted the bb folder and reinstalled, place the contents back into their respective folders.
Please let us know if the issue persists.

Well I seemed to have found where the problem lies, but noe solved it.
In the song it starts with first 4 bars as drums only and next 4 bars as drum and bass only. This was achieved by entering Em.d for drums only and Em.db for drum and bass.
Instead of using this method, I tried using the MUTE facility in the Bar Settings. Then saved the file and re-loaded directly from the .SGU file and everything played as normal.
As I said, I have got over the problem but necessarily solved it.
Maybe PG Music has some more suggestions based on this latest info.
That's odd, but unfortunately still doesn't get us any closer to a solution, as this song is working for us on multiple computers. I'd say deleting the BB folder and reinstalling from scratch should take card of it, but if muting tracks using Bar Settings works, then it may not be worth the fuss.
If you use the Em.d method to mute tracks on a new song, does it crash as well? If not, I'd likely just use Bar Settings for this song and not worry about it.

Noel96, Yes I did try your version but th same thing happened.
Well I think I have a bit nearer to the problem. It seems to associated with Realdrums.
Here are some permutations.
C. / C.d = Stops after first bar/ Locks up
C. / C.b / C.db = Plays normally
C. / C.d / C.db = Plays normally
I have tried various combinations (too many to list here) and it all points to the insertion of a period after the chord name. I thought it might be Realdrums, so I changed the track to midi drums and the same lockup happened But if I define an instrument immediately after the drums bar, it plays normally.
The song works fine in my 2017 version as well. It really seems like the problem is only occurring in that one installation of Band-in-a-Box on your computer.
Personally, I'd either delete the BB folder and reinstall, or just use Bar Settings to mute instruments for now. Since there's a download manager to help install the RealTracks in the 2016 and 2017 versions, you've probably already spent more time troubleshooting this issue than the reinstallation would take.
YAHOO !!! Got it all working again as it should do.
I was worried about deleting the C:/BB folder and re-installing and then I remembered that I had some saved "Preferences" files. Went to Options menu and selected "Open Preference file" and selected a previous file date and Hey Presto we're all back. Maybe taking this route may help others who stumble upon an unknown problem.
