When The Impact Has Worn Off

Here is something bit funkier this time, I tried to catch the mood of Prince's more rock oriented hits. Unfortunately my voice is not strong enough for this song and some parts were too challenging for my tongue, but I hope you can overlook these small issues smile

On a local musician forum there was a contest for songs related to mental health. I actually won that competition, but not with this song. The subject gave me ideas for other songs, and this one was also inspired by that subject. The message of this song could be that woman is a drug you can't be weaned off, after you have mistakenly tasted it.

Lyrics:

When the impact has worn off
and the daze is gone
in the nooks of my body
the symptoms remain to live on
I'm groping with my fingers
for a medicine case
I can merely touch
dusty crannies of my space.

Just a while ago
I felt colors in the spotlight
now I'm crawling on the carpet
in the grey of the lone night
Just a while ago
euphoria raised me higher
now I am sweating, trembling
I just can't give up on desire.

When the impact...

I went to see a doctor
asking for a new prescription
he said he can't enrupture
blissful addiction.
I searched for happiness
through alleys very shady
but every dealer of the flush
looked like a heartbroken lady.

When the impact...

I spent hazy seasons
in some mental institution
I felt the shocks of treatment
mind's electrocution.
But memories got stronger
teeth on the gag still braving
lobotomy can't remove
the traces of the serotonin craving.

When the impact...

On the waves of the Cuban seas
my pill of happiness is surfing for joy
it didn't promise to return to me
dissolving in the lap of a Latin lover boy
It shivers still on my loins
that sweet excitement
the flavor whose substitutes cloy.

Nice one, Janne.

Good groove. The bass is cool. Nice use of the horns, too. Organ is nicely used, too. Cool guitar solo.

A good listen. Funky and fun.

At first, and this is not surprising of course, this had a nice Per Gessle ring to it.
But it wouldn't be a Janne song if a completely unexpected twist wouldn't come up wink

Pro sounding, that's for sure!

A cool vibe - overall sounds like Ian Dury & the Blockheads.
There's some MASSIVE essing on your voice in places that is almost painful in headphones.
I can empathize re the difficulty of singing generally and wordy lyrics in particular.
You've made a good demo of the vocal anyway - it'd be cool to get them sorted.

Cheers

Thanks Ray for your kind feedback smile Ian Dury, wow smile I agree about essing. I should first learn to pronounce my esses correctly, then use Melodyne better and always remember to handle the consonants properly. And then use de-esser, I have tried Sonar's vocal strip, but let's see if the Nectar 3, which I have just purchased, is better.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
