Truce
© 2018 Kenny Leverett

Found an old Mustang at a junkyard
They’re just selling it off for parts
And they don’t see it the same as I do
When I see American art

Cause I can hammer out the fenders
Make it nearly good as new
Get that engine back to purring
Yeah these are things that I can do

But I can’t fix me
I can’t change you
These days it seems the best that we can do
Is call a truce

Been mechanical since I was young
So I know my way around this car
Been in love with you since grammar school
But I still don’t know your heart

And I can’t fix me
I can’t change you
These days it seems the best that we can do
Is call a truce

Now I see the damage thats been done
For too long
And I’ve been wrong
In my heart you’ll always be the one
For mercy sake
Am I too late

Cause I can’t fix me
I can’t change you
These days it seems the best that we can do
Is call a truce

Kenny

Enjoyed the melody and vocal, very nice. A good engaging set of lyrics all wrapped up in a highly accessible song.
Excellent work.

Dear "44kfl"...

Ooo-weee, partner! You sure know how to create meaningful analogies between man-made things and God-created things like human hearts! Your song, "Truce", feels jammed-packed with honest passion and sorrow.

Your verses have kind of a free-form structure to them, meaning they don't begin and end in the same number of measures, with music coming forward in the mix at irregular, but pleasingly unexpected times. My ears appreciated those musical "sweet spots".

Seems us guys, seems we're always saying, "I'm sorry!" to the ladies, ain't we? God love 'em for forgiving us -- up to a point, that is. But it sure makes for good, heartfelt songwriting, don't it?

Your RealTracks just loped right along with the lyrics, lots of forward motion, as though you may have been thinking things out while driving around aimlessly, trying to see if your words matched what was in your heart.

Your vocal was gritty, raw, and it sat on top your mix like it came down out of the sky.

"44kfl", I've noticed other forum members use the phrase, "This one's a keeper!", and in this case I would agree with them, with gusto!

Going back to have another listen,

LOREN (a.k.a. "bluage")

Dang , Kenny! You just keeping putting up one great song after another. You're gonna give the rest of a us a complex!

I really liked this - seriously liked it. The lyric says a lot in a few words - you're pretty good at that. I particularly like the bridge. That breathes as whole new life into the song as it approached the end.

Just all-around good stuff. You are a true craftsman of the art. Best to you.

Alan

A big WOW, Kenny.

Stellar write.

Worth a quote, for sure. (Actually the whole song is).

The backing carries the song perfectly. Nicely mixed.
A great vocal.
(I thought the vocal could have been "tucked in" a little more than they were. They are a bit hot in my speakers).

This is SO good. I am a HUGE fan.

Nice work on this 44kfl, This sounds fantastic and very soothing to hear. That guitar is quite warm and the pedal steel really helps piece it all together. Wonderful harmonies on the vocals. Great work!

Kenny,

What a terrific write! The segway from broken cars to hearts works so well and the result is a quintessential" guy" song.
Sung with the passion you always bring.
Another very good song!

Hi Alan and Di,

Thanks so much for your support and kind words,

I'm glad that you mentioned the bridge, I didn't know if I'd write one for this song,

it quickly became my favorite part and most fun to sing.

Thanks

Very cool backtrack. Loved the intro. Another super vocal and lyrics. Well done Kenny. The steel was a nice touch.

Really nice work on this one Kenny! As others have mentioned, the vocals are top notch here. They cut through like a dagger in the most pleasing way, and instantly demand your attention. Good lyrics to match with them as well, too. That aside, loved the progressions and though the mix was concise and professional.

You should be proud of this one - thanks for sharing smile

Yep, sometimes the best option is to plant that white flag!

Man, what a GREAT idea for a write. The skills to turn a wreck into a show car dwarfed by what it takes to make a relationship work. You have a fertile "song mind."

What to say? If we heard this on a current Americana playlist we'd go back to see who it was and play it again and again.

Great band, write, vocal and mix. The is deserving of a wide audience.

Stronger than a garlic milkshake!

Kenny, I think that this is your best to date. Your vocals, backing tracks, and mixes are always spot on but your lyrics in this song are fantastic. You can fix old cars but maybe not a relationship.

Great write!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
