This song was written when I was about 14 years old. I recorded vocals about 2008 intending to use it with BIAB backing for the 2008 RPM challenge, but it never got finished. Was fortunate enough to have saved my production files so I can reinterpret it here with Real Tracks.

It's a fictionalized account of a real-life small series of encounters with Nashville Music Row houses accompanied by my long-suffering mother. No contracts were signed, but I got to be indignant, which is always fun. It started as an angry young man song, but has evolved here into a somewhat tongue-in-cheek, overproduced piece of pomposity. At least that's my intention as I've matured at least a little bit since then.

Went to see a record big wheel
For to make a record big deal.
Said, "Tell you son just what I'm gonna do...
If we need your music, we'll call you."

"Son, this field is quite demanding.
We need to have an understanding.
You ain't got much talent, don't you know?
You ain't got no business in this show."

I'm gonna show them.

I can write a song right alongside the best of them
I can quill a lyric that will fill your eyes with tears.
I can make you laugh, I can make you cry.
To save your life you won't know why.

I've been writing songs all of my years.
I've got angels singing in my ears.

Super vocal and this tune. Really cool backtrack. Organ and drums were excellent.

I really liked this! Nice, comfortable flow, end-to-end. and very appropriate instrumentation for the style/sentiment/youthfulness of the lyric. Your clean, simple vocal was just right. I wouldn't apologize for any of this, I think it's a solid, well-constructed, and pleasant composition, perfectly delivered. Bravo!

You can definite hear the adolescent attitude in the lyrics. I like how you transformed the song into an "overproduced piece of pomposity." smirk This has a pleasing melody and good vocals to enhance the song.

Amazing you were only 14 when you wrote this, very good writing IMHO.

I like your vocal, your voice has such a down to earth "honest" quality.

Good song, enjoyed the listen!

14? Sheesh...when I was 14 it would be 30 years before I would write a lyric.

There's a lot to like here -- like everything.

The lyric, melody, vocal and arrangement are infectious or "catchy" in the current vernacular smile

The drums and that sync half note bass work together extremely well and really provide the glue throughout.

And the mix sounds good on our monitors and the HomePod. Nice!!!

Very nice pop song telling an interesting story, nicely the title of the song is left to the end of the lyrics. Great sounding vocals, I'm glad the mix is not too pompous smile

Cool backstory and cool song. Love the line "I've got angels singing in my ears" and the vocal. Tight production - sounds great.

The youngster had something to say - making that chorus
"I've been writing songs all of my years.
I've got angels singing in my ears." a little ironic but no less sweet!
Its cool that you kept the vocal - its good (and the production not at all pompous).
I enjoyed the backstory - a boy and his mum making the rounds in Nashville- that`s tear worthy and good song material.

That old one turned out very nicely (enjoyed the story). Really nice melody and an excellent chorus..
A very pleasant composition.

Peter

One small suggestion - perhaps an earlier fade out? (the band keeps playing chords for quite a while once the vocal ends).

Tangmo,

Truly impressive for a 14-year-old - both the lyric and the melody.

Nice vocal. And a really nice production - sort of a mix of old and new - there are elements of 70's Country in there that fit your story, for sure... then an overall 80's Country sound... and yet, it does not sound dated...

Good mix.

Enjoyed that.

Exactly!! I wrote some stuff as a teen but I don't think any of it was this good. Really nice! Vocal is very sweet, as is arrangement/production. Enjoyed much!! Take care. Greg

What a really nice song! And quite an accomplishment for just 14 years old! For me, this has a very early 80s sound. Nice arrangement, lyric and mix. Your vocal sold this one for me. That was terrific listen - totally enjoyed my listen - both times.

Tangmo,

Nice tune—reminds me of a 70’s tune; really well put together. Like the instrumental and use of guitars on this one; very rich, nice depth. Enjoyed this listen a lot!

All the best,

Very nice tune !!! Love the way you sing.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
