Great price at the moment, 73% off Black Friday sale (comes to $48).

I use their EZDrummer2 software and it's great, but know nothing about their EZMix product. Seems like an all in one solution including mastering which I wouldn't use, but the effects and amp simulations might be cool, always looking to try something new.

Here: https://www.toontrack.com/product/ezmix-2/

Does anyone here use this software?

I have EZMix 2 but I rarely use it anymore. It will do a decent job and before I learned how to manually mix I used it a lot; by manually mix I mean learning how to use EQ, compression, limiting, etc.

It is a good product but with one big drawback IMHO. That is lack of control. You only have two knobs to adjust two settings. For me that limited the use of it. However if I want to mix quickly I still use this.

If you know how to use EQs, compression, etc then this may not be of interest. However if you are just starting then this is a fantastic learning tool, i.e. it taught me a lot.

If you are looking for a lot of mixing presets that have little control this should be on top of your get me list.

This is just my opinion and others may disagree.

Thanks, Mario!

I am mostly interested in effects and the amp simulation part of the product, not so much the all in one mix aspect which I wouldn't use.

$48 for for just the amp simulation and effects portion is a pretty good price IMHO, assuming it's good wink

Maybe I'll download the demo and play with it a bit.

I have never used the amp simulation. I always have recorded straight into the mixing board or used Amplitube. I keep forgetting about EZMix! Hopefully I will get some time to try that out!

Let me know that you think about the amp sim.

I suspect that if it were much more than this, they would have to market it as Not-so-easy Mix.

I have it, use it, and recommend it - if that's that sort of thing you want.

It really depends on what you're trying to do.

As the name says, you're getting a bunch of canned presets, with two degrees of freedom. However, those two knobs may be doing more than one thing in the background.

Sure, you could do it cheaper/better if you understood the toolchain.

It also means that you'll be buying a bunch of preset packs from Toontrack.

This is the time of year that Toontrack is having big sales, so currently you could pick up the Big Rock Guitars or Lead Vocals packs for $20. You can also get the 6 pack bundle to mix and match 6 sets of your own choice - again, currently on sale for $113.

So it's a limited tool that can only be expanded by spending more money. If you're looking to save money, at the end of the day you might find you spent as much as you would have on other products.

But it does work as promised.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I honestly think you will be better off buying something like Hybrid 3 for 1 dollar and then get Neutron elements from for free (Pluginboutique has that deal). Neutron is great for mixing.

Hi Will,

Like I said I’m not interested in it for mixing, I have all the tools I need for mixing and mastering including Neutron2 and Ozone8.

I was specifically asking if anyone had used the amp simulation portion of the package.

I've used their amp simulations. I'm not really a guitar gear kind of person, so I can't really tell you how accurate it was. It was good enough for what it did, and for me to consider getting the Big Rock Guitars presets that are currently on sale for $20.

Then again, Overloud is currently running a 50% off sale on some of their stuff, and the TH3 Full is currently $130, and the TH3 Rock is only $50. These are a lot more flexible, and come with a bunch of presets. Plus, you can download them and try them out first.

Dave, I stumbled across this web page that lists the best guitar sims, both the free ones and the pay ones. There are more than I thought there were.

I have it and use it but only in my mastering chain because one of the presets has the best stereo width adjustment I've heard. I have a ton of Waves, Izotope, IK Multimedia, etc, plugins and go to them for just about everything else but for stereo width, I've yet to find anything I prefer to the "Master Limiter Stereo Enhancer" preset on there. One knob allows you to control the limiting while the other allows for control over the width of the field. Another bonus is that it does so with a very small footprint.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
