Hi fellows.

Here is a tune I sweated. Had a bit of a hiccup with tempo
of non BIAB items but good people of this forum helped me to get it
right...When I was done with backing track I was about to dump it,
because of the frustration it caused, but then looked at it once more and
it just came together. Besides BIAB, I used a few old arranger midi
styles which had some surgeries and revoicing done. Now, looking back,
it was a fun project for me. Please do not judge harshly, this is more
of an experiment.

P.S. "Love is a serious mental disease" - Plato.

Thank you for listening!

Lyrics:

Watching world spin as a reel, like a drama film
From a window of a fast train,
it's a labyrinth of never ending dream.
I'm lost like a needle, a needle in hay.

Love is a serious mental disease, that's what wise men say.
I tend to follow their expertise, going insane.

Ghosts from the past are walking among us,
looking for body to steal.
Lies and illusions are spreading like virus,
masses are searching for magical pill.

Love is a serious mental disease, that's what wise men say.
I tend to follow their expertise, going insane.

Some men possessed by the sky like Icarus,
some are collecting post stamps.
Some lay all day on a couch like a walrus,
some like to dance.

Love is a serious mental disease, that's what wise men say.
I tend to follow their expertise, going insane.

Hi Rustyspoon, thank you for sharing this! Excellent mixdown on all of this and I dig the overall timbres. That piano gels everything together nicely. Keep it up!

Rustyspoon, if it was “just an experiment” it was a good one. This song kept me listening. I like iit.

Joe, Thanks! I think mix is a bit too dynamic.. but you are very right, piano glued a lot of weirdness together.

Hey Tony. Thank you for the post and for your help with tempo things! smile

Scott, Thank you for listening and positive feedback!

HI Misha,

An experiment gone right! Different, interesting and a pleasure to listen to. You have some of the most interesting music on the forums! Cool song and great vocal. I like the ending a lot. Best to you,

Alan

I love the line "Love is a serious mental disease." Yeah! I like the your mix, especially the placement of the disco guitar, and the somewhat ethereal ambiance created with the instrumentation.

Fair enough! You might benefit from some compression on the master bus to help reduce the dynamic range.

BiaB encourages experimentation and you take advantage of that with another cool production.

We enjoyed the spin!

I can tell you had fun with this project... perhaps it shined most in your scat singing... and in the imagery of the lyrics... I would say you experiment paid dividends... I imagine you song also would be well-suited for a video... I can just see a walrus on a couch

Always a treat to listen to your creative work! Again, your choice of lyric words is most interesting, and it inspires me to break outside the normal walls of lyric writing!

You had me laughing in the break...there was Leon Redbone again! maybe Louis Armstrong! What that the 'insane' aspect of your song!? I liked it alot.

My only suggestion...right there at the end, with the little playful notes...it sounded like you cut it off and needed one more 'ending' note, resolving up to your main key...just a little something I was expecting to make it a neat ending!

Thanks for your hard work in mastering this tough one! It was worth it!

Hi Ruszyspoon#,

no doubt that Plato was right and no doubt his saying cried for a good song. And no doubt that you did a very creative job on that front. A very good listen, thank you for sharing.

Take care,

Stefan

Hi gals and fellows smile
Thank you for excellent feedback!

As Alan sharply noted, it was an experiment gone right. Originally I wrote the backing track for a completely different song. I think, the more I get involved in music, the more I understand that it is better not to get attached to idea or structure of a song too firmly. Things flow better when you approach them with open mind.

Joe, Thank you for suggestion! I added some compression to M.Bus initially, probably have to fool around some more with compression on individual tracks too.

Tano, Thank you for "ending" reminder. I was so relieved that I got the tempo corrected, that I rushed to finish it asap, so I can put it behind me. You are right 100% about ending things properly.
I have a childhood friend who spent some time with throat singers from Tuva. He captured technique pretty well. Hoping one day to lure him to do some "vocal" lines on my tunes. Could be very fun project:)

Best regards,
Misha.

Rustyspoon.
Initially I thought the vocal was too loud but as the song progress I was more comfortable with the level.
A VERY cool song.
Well done once again.

Ember, thank you!

Rayc, you are actually very right, it is not mixed well at all. I realized that when I listened to it in the car yesterday:) Thanks for listening and your input!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
