I have BIAB/Realband 2016. I intend to purchase the new 2019 version this month.
I have the program (bb folder) on c drive, and realtracks and drums folders on d drive.
My laptop has a 120gb SSD (c drive) and a 1000gb storage drive (d drive).
Is it possible/advisable to install my new BIAB, when it arrives, on d drive.
Will the programs run slower or have less memory capability compared to a c drive install?
Thanks,
Mike

Yes

You can simply install everything on D: drive.

or, you can maintain your current configuration:
You can install just the BiaB program on C: drive You can install the Real Drums and RealTracks on D: drive as per our current setup.

As long as BiaB know where the RealDrums and RealTracks files are it will work fine (Options > Preferences)

You'll need around 1.7TB space i guess if you buy the Audiophile version .... runs from it's included USB 3.0 drive.

Yes, the Audiophile version is totally self contained on it's own drive, but you can still install the main program on your internal drive if required.

Where are the RealTracks and RealDrums folders for the content you presently have installed? Will you purchase download files or will you receive DVD, USB memory stick or hard drive hard copy?

Where your folders currently exist has a bearing on the best answer to provide because you already own some of the available content. It is better to keep all content in one location because the program only looks in one place. You can change the folder location settings in the program preferences but it's easier to make a mistake when you move away from program defaults.

I may be mistaken but I believe files are grouped differently between download and hard copy. I think download files are split into small groups so they are easier to download.

Hard copy file installers have four options ranging from (1) install just essential files and run everything else from the external hard drive to (4) install everything to the primary storage drive.

RealTracks and RealDrums folders are in bb folder on d drive. I will keep the same locations for the new Realtracks/drums.
I will purchase the UltraPAK+ on hard drive.
I have read that some programs MUST be installed on C drive but as my d drive has much more room i just wanted to make sure BIAB would work OK.
Thanks again.
Mike

You should be fine. The BIAB files that MUST be on drive C are relatively small. These include some fonts and a couple of housekeeping files related to activation.

Yes, your proposed setup sounds fine. Virtually everything can be on your D: drive. As Matt mentioned, there only needs to be a small number of files on the C:\ drive, and these are dictated by where Windows needs them. Font files, etc.

Thanks everyone for your help.
One last question: Should I uninstall BIAB/Realband 2016 from my c drive before I install BIAB/Realband 2019 on my d drive?

It's not necessary or important to do so.

Is there an installation manager app for realtracks? I seem to remember but cannot find anything in the forums.
I'd like to re-install all my realtracks.

Well there is the Download Manager under Help/Utilities which will help with downloading and installing anything that you have bought and isn't already downloaded/installed.

Is the program likely to run slower on the d drive, compared to the c drive (SSD)?

By 'slower', if you mean 'annoyingly slower', then I'd say "no". I run BIAB on d:\ (which is not SSD) and the speeds are fine. I have an I7 computer with 16 GB of ram and...

Program boot up time = 2.04 seconds

When I click "Generate/Play" for a song that has 4 x Realtracks and 1 x Realdrums, and is 32 bars long, playback starts in around 2 - 3 seconds.

Hope this helps,
Noel

I run the program from an SSD drive (not my boot drive, but that doesn't matter). I keep the RealTracks and RealDrums on a fast regular hard drive. I think this is the best solution for me, as the audiophile RealTracks are enormous - 1.5 TB - but I really like loading the program from an SSD. As Noel said, I don't think it makes that much difference where the RealTracks are, but I do like the almost instant response from the program loading that I get with having it on an SSD. Most people probably don't have an SSD as their boot drive that is large enough to hold the audiophile version anyway.

Hello All,

I just purchased the new audiophile version 2019 of Band In a Box. I currently have the 2018 version.

I run 2018 off my hard drive and have BinaB search for realtracks and real drums on my E drive with the provided hard drive plugged into USB.

I plan to keep the same set up with 2019, on the same computer.

Should I uninstall the 2018 program from my hard drive and reinstall 2019? If so, how do I so this? I have several files I have created saved on the hard drive.

Hi Tom,

Just install the hard-drive version of BIAB 2019 directly over the top of the 2018 installation. This makes keeping user styles and files much easier.

This is what I and many others on the forum do and have done for a number of years. I installed the Audiophile edition just a few days ago and it went without any problems. I always choose the option that re-installs the wma Realtracks and Realdrums (it takes around and hour to complete).

The 2019 Audiophile edition USB can then be used for Realtracks and Realdrums (just like you've been using the 2018 version).

Regards,
Noel
