New song by Southern Fried. using BIAB drums, piano, bass some guitars and organ. A song about the outlaw days in the mid 70's, when Waylon, Willie, and Jerry Jeff Walker were doing the outlaw thing in Luckenbach Texas. Enjoyed those songs then and still do.

Looking back on Lukenbach tonight
remembering how those boys would fuss and fight
Their success seemed to stir the devils brew
could have happened to anyone but you

Take me back to Lukenbach tonight, I want to hear that singer sang that country right
A steel guitar inside of a 5 piece band.
A fender telecaster in a hot guitar pickers hand.

instrumental

Well it was country music with an outlaw thang around
They kept it going & changed the nashville sound
The working man could hear the things they said.
Lets me recall when it wasnt all blue and red
Looking Back , Luckenbach was our spirit being fed

Chorus

[Link no longer valid]

enjoy!!!! CLiff

Nice homage/reminder of a time past...the track provides a great backdrop for the outstanding picking solo.

Clever lyric hook matching “looking back” with “Lukenbach”..good job there.

Real good energy, and lots of fun, too! Enjoyed this, Cliff...thanks for posting!

Clifton,

I really love this. It has such an old school professional style--back when they could play and write and sing.

I could listen to this all day.

In fact, I just might.

Cliff,

A good "country as it was" write. A very solid lyric.

The opening melody had a real Hag sound to it.

The BAND sounds Country. Nice job of getting the drums where they need to be.

One of your best, I think.

Mighty good, fellas. That's quite an accomplishment,
near the end, to have produced that guitar/vocal mix where both are turned up yet neither dominates the other.

An excellent flashback to the good ol' days in country music.

I really enjoyed this. Great mix and some super guitar chops.

Hey Cliff,

Cool! I made a ton of money playing this kind of music for many, many years. Over much of that time I played an original 1954 Fender Tele, too! Everything about this is spot on - really cool song and delivered equally good. A big tip of the Stetson to you!

Alan.

PS: I wonder how many folks outside of texas are familiar with Jerry Jeff Walker. And, of course, there's Kinky Friedman and Rusty Wier.

Luckenbach was one of the first country songs I ever really learned to play. It's one of the few songs I remember all the lyrics.

cool tune.

Cliff,

"our spirit being fed" kind of sums up how this sounds. You & the band are in a sweet groove here!

Very good homegrown music.

This is a cool track and the singing is spot on.
the only nit I'd have is the dueling guitars of the intro they seem at odds with each other on note choices.
"The working man could hear the things they said.
Lets me recall when it wasn't all blue and red."
Yep.

Dear "cliftond"...

The inspiration you obviously took from the musicians who are the subjects of your song, "Looking Back On Lucenbach", lends the proper heroic and legendary feel to your lyrics, and surely is responsible for the nostalgic sound of the music. Your vocal in particular...it just shines with the light of the memories of the country music culture of the 70's that you seemingly clearly recall with such reverence.

There is something about "country" music that I can't quite put my finger on, that is, if I was going to attempt to explain it to somebody. Nonetheless, I know it when I hear it. I certainly heard "it" in your full-bodied music, your vividly descriptive lyrics, and you and your bandmates' committed performances.

Gettin' closer it "it",

LOREN

Well hell, who can compare to that!!! ha, WOW TO HAVE A 54 TELE!!! AMAZING, YEAR I WAS BORN also. Alan, I love the old country music, started with Hank williams when I was 12 learning the guitar in about 68, first heard waylon in 70 with good hearted woman, before he and Willie did it later, first really heard Willie in 75 when he came out with Blue eyes, I had heard the Hank williams version earlier, this was a Fred Rose song from about 1950. I like music to have a meaning and sound raw to the ear. Cliff

Your song brings many memories, both listening to those old songs & playing them...

Fortunately here in Texas we can still hear & play those old tunes...
Good job on this one!

Being late to commenting there really not much I can ad. The title is truly awesome...which has been said; but I can't tell you how many times I've looked at that and thought "what a great title!"

Great song all the way around. It was a really good listen.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
