Old is new again. This song is a current hit and an excellent example of Nashville Country turn a phrase songwriting with great hooks and catchy memorable sing a long melody. Hits all the marks. This song peaked at #3 in September 2017. Has over 75 million hits on youtube. It's been called traditional country. Production reminds me of 80's-90's country with a Bellamy Brothers vocal style. I've linked the video and put the lyrics below it. A great current song to study for this type of country songwriting, this is the bar - pun intended. grin

Lyrics:
One more night, one more down
One more, one more round
First one in, last one out
Giving this town lots to talk about
They don't know what they don't know

People say I've got a drinkin' problem
That ain't no reason to stop
People sayin' that I've hit rock bottom
Just 'cause I'm living on the rocks
It's a broken hearted thinkin' problem
So pull that bottle off the wall
People say I got a drinkin' problem
But I got no problem drinkin' at all
They keep on talkin'
Drawing conclusions
They call it a problem, I call it a solution

Last call gets later and later
I come in here so I don't have to hate her
Same old folks, same old songs
Same old, same old blue neon
The same old buzz, just because

People say I've got a drinkin' problem
That ain't no reason to stop
People sayin' that I've hit rock bottom
Just 'cause I'm living on the rocks
It's a broken hearted thinkin' problem
So pull that bottle off the wall
People say I got a drinkin' problem
But I got no problem drinkin' at all
They keep on talkin'
Drawing conclusions
They call it a problem, I call it a solution
Just sitting here in all my grand illusions
They call it a problem, I call it a solution
Just a solution

It's a broken hearted thinkin' problem
So pull that bottle off the wall
People say I got a drinkin' problem
But I got no problems drinkin' at all
They keep on talkin'
Drawing conclusions
They call it a problem, I call it a solution
Just sitting here in all my grand illusions
They call it a problem, I call it a solution

This is the kind of country that I love.

Great find and thanx for sharing this gem.

Good song. This group caused quite a stir in the beginning being accused of not being a real country band but the music has always been top notch and authentic.

Yep... I remember that song on the radio.

The thing is, there will always be songs that reach back to the styles of past years. Even though the industry says it wants up tempo, hip cool lyrics, fresh sounding beats, etc, ad nausium, there will always be the songs that get in regardless. Chris Stapleton is a great example. When he first came out, he was the "coolest thing".... Now days he's just another artist in the airplay rotation. Not taking anything away from him, because he does tend toward the older styles.

I guess my point is write what you love and damn the torpedoes.

A good song for sure, but the lead vocal really nails it. The chorus; "People say I got a drinkin' problem" is a real sing-a-long hook, a George Jones hook.

The video was great too!

And, that sound is easily within the scope of BIAB. Just have to find the right singer! floyd, are you there? grin

Nice find! Despite the several million hits, I'd never heard this before. Definitely a breath of fresh air, considering what most modern country sounds like these days. Might have to look more into this guy,

Thanks for sharing smile

I always liked Gary Stewart's drinking songs.

The songwriting - turn of phrase word play and melody in this one caught my attention. It just happened to be about drinking. You don't hear as much of that as in the past when it was commonly used as a lyrical device in country songs regardless of song topic.

Also I think a lot of writers would have stopped the chorus with "But I got no problem drinkin' at all" instead of changing the melody and adding the lines

They keep on talkin'
Drawing conclusions
They call it a problem, I call it a solution

Always amazes me how those kinds of decisions can make such a difference.

I had also never heard this song despite its popularity. I really appreciated the lyrics for this song, especially "They call it a problem, I call it a solution". Heavy.

I've been hearing it on the radio and it's still going strong here in Baton Rouge, La.

Yep .. "She's Acting Single And I'm Drinking Doubles" and "Drinkin' Thing" come to mind. Our band played them quite a bit ... back in the day.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
