Hi Gang

I'm interested in upgrading my 2017 ultra plus Pak for PC to the 2019 Audiophile and also purchase all the available realtracks and styles.

Do the xtra styles 1-6 come in wav format or are they compressed if I buy the Audiophile version?

If I want to upgrade Audiophile next year can I just download any new content in wav format?

Thanks.

1:
My understanding is that if you purchase any extras for the Audiophile version, they will come in both Wma and Wav format (what else would be the point?). All Audiophile real tracks have both formats available. The program selects the WAV if available, otherwise the WMA.

2:
Generally speaking a 'new year' version release for Audiophile doesn't allow to only download the Audiophile files. The web site only shows a USB hard drive distribution. Others will know more.

Hi,

Styles are neither wav nor wma. It is the Realtracks or Realdrums that are wav or wma.

All a style file does is to provide an easy way to open a collection of Realtracks (or MIDI or SuperMIDI tracks) and Realdrums that work together to create pleasant sounds across multiple genres.

The above said, the style files are an amazing convenience. Given that there are well over 2,000 Realtracks these days, I'd never be able to work out what goes best with what. Thus style files make it very, very easy for me to find some really great musical ensembles!

In other words, if you are getting the Audiophile edition, there's no need to worry about compressed or wav style files. I would make sure, though, that you double-check that any bonus packages will be added to the Audiophile drive as wav files. I also suggest getting all Xtra styles as these are really great and are a convenient way of working with Realtracks, etc.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks for clarifying that Noel. Yes, there are no WAV or WMA 'Styles', only WAV or WMA RealTracks and/or RealDrums. The Style is the 'glue' that puts the music together.

When I have purchased any extra Paks, I tell Sales that I have the audiophile version. They then include the .WAV files for any RealTracks that are part of that package.

Hi Lads

Many thanks for your help, if I can download any future upgrades to Audiophile 2019 I will purchase,

I don't want to have to purchase the full lot again with the hard drive, it would cost too much with shipping and UK customs costs.

Thanks.

I think they now offer delivery on a flash drive, too. I don't know if the audiophile update would fit (the full audiophile version surely would not). You might ask. Somewhere in another recent post, Videotrack listed the size of the files to download; it wasn't too bad.

That problem with customs costs comes up a lot in posts here.

Hi Loopyfruit,

How much is the custom costs? I fear them as well...

Thanks Matt.

Hi Will

I maybe wrong on this but I think here in UK it is 2.5% customs duty, then the courier charges APX £15 to collect the duty and on top of that there is a 20% VAT charge on the value of the goods and fees.

I am only willing to take this hit if in future I can download any new updates or add-ons for Audiophile.

The Audiophile upgrade from your 2017 UltraPlusPAK would be $499, and ships on a USB hard drive - due to its size, it's not available for download, and cannot ship on a flash drive.

The Xtra Styles PAKs are not included in any Band-in-a-Box purchase, and can be added here: https://www.pgmusic.com/xtrastyles.php?os=win

These work with the existing RealTracks in your UltraPAK/UltraPAK+/Audiophile purchase (example: the new Xtra Styles PAK 6 works with the 2018 UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, and Audiophile) - so, if you use these with an installed Audiophile version, then it will use the uncompressed RealTracks and RealDrums.

If you decide to purchase a 2019 Audiophile Edition, and want to upgrade it next year once 2020 is available (I can't believe it's almost 2020!), then there will be an additional discount - usually this type of purchase is $199 - it would still ship as a complete Audiophile hard drive though.

Callie, thanks for giving this clear answer.

Do you think it might be feasible in the future to develop a Plus Pak Audiophile version? Does PG Music know how large a capacity it would have to be? If this could be stored on a very large flash drive it would cut the cost of the import taxes for some users considerably.

I suggested elsewhere: some kind of protected torrent download system fur huge downloads could be an alternative. Users share their computers as participating servers reducing the download activity from the motherload carrying server. Like with the California Goldrush, the gold quickly dispersed when the gold hungry general Joe Blows came in by the thousands digging up a share. Steinberg and Toontrack do it with their download managers. But 1.6 TB is a lot compared to the 30-40 GB file sizes from latter companies.

True but I’m not talking about downloading the whole audiophile version at 1.6 TB, which is as large as you say. I’m talking about a PlusPak of just what’s necessary to update last year’s audiophile version to this year. Much smaller.

Hi Matt

This is what I would like to do, after first buying the full Audiophile USB drive then in coming years just download any additional updates.

I'm sure it would boost sales for Audiophile from those having to import.

If this can be done in the future count me in.

Thanks everyone for your inputs on this.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
