Hi,

One of my usual experimentation is to listen my favorite styles playing with different chord progressions.

Apart from my own custom ones is there any way to copy a chord progression from the new 'Song Picker' dialog (the area below the song list) and paste it in a currently loaded song? I want try other progressions without changing my current loaded style, tempo, metric etc and without having to introduce manually the new chord progression.

Use of the chord progressions in Song Picker by the means of straight copy and substitution would be fantastic. Unfortunately I've tried it but doesn't seem to work to me here. I can paste the chord progression to a txt type doc or similar, but I can't paste it in my song chord area in Band in a Box. Alternatives there?

I tried other methods, like 'Arrangement Options/OK To Load Style With Songs' but it present unpredictable results like instruments, tempo and song structure alterations.

Oneilvivas,
There isn’t currently a way to paste those type,of progressions, but that’s something we plan on adding, hopefully to a (free) 2019 patch.

Have Fun!

Oh man, that would be awesome! It would be even more awesome if you the copy paste would include the shots, holds, and bar settings (I know that David Snyder, for one, has requested the addition of that function on these forums).

Thanks Deacon Blues, I will be aware of your answer and your method.

I forget it! I must mention that sometimes I use an interesting alternative presented by Carlos Arellanos, the guy who is the spanish forum host, a fantastic guitar player btw.

He advises to choice your favorite chord progression from the Song Picker, or you can look for one you already know, once this is done, go to File/Import and select 'Import MGU Song' and look for the song in your hard drive or current media, after click "open" it will get you to the 'Import Band-in-a-Box Song' dialog window, once there un-check all the boxes under "Include with Imported Song" except 'Chords'.

Also be sure 'Overwrite' is checked for 'Insert Mode' and "1" for 'Import ... to Bar of current song' .
Also check 'after import, copy first chorus of melody/soloist to whole song' as well, of course all of above is upon your personal choices.
It is the more accurate method I know for progression chords substitution, it work great but I found a bit tedious, especially if you want to check many chord progressions.

Oneilvivas,

You've mentioned a method I've never considered to copy chords between two song files. That is a pretty nice solution by the Spanish forum moderator, Carlos Arellanos.

I hope you or Carlos will consider adding this tip to the +++ Post Your Own Tips & Tricks HERE +++ forum section.

Again, thank you for sharing the tip!

Thanks, Oneil, I miss you in the classroom! I'm glad it was useful for you. More than a tip I think it means the advantage of reading the manual even its hidden corners, cool

Carlos,

I appreciate you taking the time to add your tip to the Tips & Tricks section of the forum.

I am also a big fan of reading the manual and have completely read the 615 page Band-in-a-Box manual but did not pay close attention to the import commands as I rarely import. I guess that's why I think your tip is so creative. I've always thought of using copy/paste but never thought of importing.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
